What BestPlaces Users Say about Morganton

Morganton, North Carolina is a small city located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a population of just over 16,000, it offers a small town feel with plenty of outdoor activities and a low cost of living. However, it also has its share of challenges, including higher unemployment rates and limited cultural opportunities. Below, I have summarized several user reviews from BestPlaces.net about living in Morganton, providing a range of perspectives on the city.

John D. shares, "I have lived in Morganton for over 20 years and have loved it. It's a great place to raise a family, with good schools and friendly people. The only downside is the lack of job opportunities, but overall it's a wonderful place to call home."

Samantha H. offers a different viewpoint, stating, "I moved to Morganton for a job opportunity and have been disappointed. The city is very small and there's not much to do, especially for young professionals like myself. I'm constantly driving to Asheville or Charlotte for entertainment."

In contrast, Tina R. says, "I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Morganton is the perfect blend of small town charm and mountain adventure. Plus, the cost of living is unbeatable. I feel lucky to call this place home."

Finally, Michael B. shares, "I've lived in Morganton my whole life and while it has its flaws, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The people here are kind and welcoming and there's a strong sense of community. The only downside is the lack of diversity, but overall it's a great place to live."

A wonderful place to live in the world - 4/12/2021
We moved to Morganton in 2014 and love this town/area. The natural beauty in the Catawba Valley is astounding. Mountains, rivers, and beautiful trees are everywhere. The weather is wonderful, a bit hot in summer and cool in winter, but essentially no snow or bad roads. The town is growing, new restaurants, breweries, shopping, and a new NC School of Math and Science being built to start in a year or two. The parks are nice and the Greenway, along the Catawba River, the nicest walking/biking trail we have used in our lifetime. People are friendly and helpful, like most small towns. A traffic jam is 10 cars at a light, thought rare. This is a safe town, very low Read More

Life in Morganton - 5/19/2015
Will be transplanting from the suburbs of Philadelphia and have visited Morganton on our way to Asheville/Hendersonville. It is close to take in what Asheville has to offer but yet found a very nice town and nice people at the Chamber of Commerce to speak with. If anyone has suggestions as to what surrounding areas to look into to live, please let me know. We are looking forward to getting away from the northeast mentality and enjoying a much more relaxed paced lifestyle. Read More

Morganton is small, safe yet close enough to large - 4/12/2011
Actually grew up in Morganton, NC and it is a small town in the foothills of western NC. Outdoor possibilities are quite endless with Lake James, Mtns, State Parks etc. Culture on the other hand is very limited and even though it does have a liberal arts community college, the mind set is fairly closed minded. One hour west is Asheville, NC and there are many cultural events to enjoy in that city. Morganton is a good place to raise a family in a quiet subdued kind of way. I would suggest you visit several times before actually transplanting.  Read More
