Diversity not Welcomed here!!! - 4/24/2021
It feels like I stepped into a time portal and went back fifty years ago to the past. People are very racist here from the police to the bank tellers and real estate agents. If you are not white they look down on you as if you are scum and they are better than you. Even if you have money to spend they are blatantly and openly racist and don't even want to rent to you or want your money. When you go into their businesses and stores to purchase anything they follow you around and racial profile you. I hate this backwards town full of ugly, racist, reddnek people and cant wait to leave here. If you want to raise your family in a nice town with respectful people who welcome and value diversity and do not come here. I am leaving soon and can't wait to get Read More

Yikes - 1/5/2021
Pre pandemic: 2/5

Everything is affordable but there’s a lot of dead shopping centers. Lots of trashy or broken areas. Absolutely nothing to do on Friday and Saturday night except eat at Logan’s or Applebee’s for the nth time.

Political: This place is great if you’re a republican/Trump supporter. If you’re a democratic you’ll be fine as long as you don’t speak much. And definitely don’t say a word if you’re more left.

For LGBT treatment: if you’re a lesbian or bisexual woman you’ll be fine. If you’re a gay or bi man, don’t move here. My boyfriend and I could barely show a shred of affection without someone saying the f-slur or making threats. We were even asked to stop holding hands at a restaurant. Straight people can dry hump in public but we can’t hold hands without violent threats.

Also, not a safe place to be transgender. Unless you work at Starbucks, no one will hire you. Statesville doesn’t care how stealth you Read More

Sleepy town, fairly low crime rate - 8/31/2013
First the good: The town has a relatively low crime rate. The rough areas are on the South side and there is a movement to clean up the area. From some of the other comments, this must be the part of town that they are talking about as there are some run down areas. The area from the old depot until you head out towards Troutman is fairly rough and to be avoided at night.
Traffic is much worse than it used to be, but still nowhere near as bad as Mooreville/Charlotte area. Homes at this time are from range of $80,000 - $250,000. If you want to renovate an older home there are some great examples of Victorian and Federal - some Spanish - but they sell from around $170,000+
The bad: There is very little to do for teens and older kids. There is the YMCA, and the city now has a very nice Fitness Center for those within city limits. There is a great park near downtown called Lakewood, and a nice walking park also called Mac Anderson Park.
Most shopping is done in the Read More

I have lived in statesville for 3 years... Robbed - 7/6/2012
I have now lived in statesville for 3 years. I live in what was the old country club. I love my home its beautifull. Although the neighborhood is terrible. Our garage has been broken into 3 times. My husbands car has been robbed once and my neighbor was stabbed. I can't wait to get the hell out if here!!! I am looking to move to Savannha. I heard that crime was bad there. After doing reaserch Statesville was comparably worse, and its a small town. Don't move Read More

Not so good... - 8/20/2007
I recently moved to Troutman, NC and unfortunately I'm not very far from Statesville... I do most of my shopping and leisure activities in the Mooresville area. I'm actually quite surprised at how slummy Statesville is. There are areas that are so run down and "ghetto" that I locked my car doors the few times I have passed through. Run down houses with grass 2 feet high...broken windows, cars sitting on blocks, just plain trashy. There are certain areas that are much nicer and well kept. Some of the stores/shopping centers there look a century old and quite frankly I aviod them. Just recently here, an innocent man was taking a walk in the downtown statesville area and got beaten by 8 teenagers..he died a few days later... so if I were you I would be wary of where you were and when. As for the industry/jobs.. there's not much going on. I have lived all over the united states and to tell you the truth, parts of Statesville remind me of southern California. Just run down and Read More
