Scary, Weird - 12/20/2019
I moved here five years ago and within the first two weeks I had an 80 so'me year old lady give me the stink eye for holding door open for her and an 80 some year old man flip me off. I've been physically assaulted by a stranger that was road raging only to have a police officer tell me that she was attempting a citizen's arrest! This town is freaky weird...a real live Stephen King novel where things happen that make your jaw drop. I've lived my entire adult life on the road moving around the country chasing storms so I have plenty of experience to compare it to. The corruption is rampant so unless you want to live on the shady side of life, I wouldn't move here....not to mention the weather. It's not meant for human Read More

Not for most - 8/9/2018
Been living here for 20 + yrs...

Pros - Safe, decent schools, commute, low unemployment & nice summers.

Cons - Cost of living, taxes (highest in the state), Excessive pricing on flights, due to Minneapolis being the closest major airport (8hrs away), quality of life due to terrible winters. Very few activities for families on a day to day basis & very poorly managed.

Neutral - 1/3 of the population is from a major Air Force Base north of Read More

Please don't listen to the negative reviews for Minot. I've been a resident here for 10 years now, and have lived in the state since 1996. Growing up in Bottineau, ND, Minot was the closest "big city" for us and was often a travel destination for shopping, dining, movies, and so on.

As a resident of Minot, I've enjoyed this changing town over the years. We have seen explosive growth here since the oil boom, and there are many great places to dine and spend time than when I first arrived. Examples of these include 10 North Main restaurant, Little Blue Elephant Thai restaurant, Sweet and Flour Patisserie, ND Asia, Five Guys, Longhorn Steakhouse, JL Beers, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc. While most of these are chain places, there's no shortage of locations to eat in town! We also have some great parks like the Scandinavian Heritage Park, Oak Park, Roosevelt Park and Zoo, and most of these are pet friendly. We have a few bike trails around town, the YMCA and multiple gyms, nearby Read More

OIL BOOM. LOTS OF JOBS. APARTMENTS ARE RENTING FOR $1,000 A BEDROOM. GOOD SCHOOLS, BUT GETTING OVER CROWDED. ALL STREETS IN NEED OF REPAIR. LONG COLD WINTERS. BEAUTIFUL SUMMERS, BUT THEY ARE SHORT. THE COST OF GROCERIES HAVE ABOUT DOUBLED SINCE THE OIL BOOM. A CUP OF YOGRT COSTING $1.00 IN MOST PLACES NOW COST $2.00 HERE. GAS PRICES RUN HIGHER HERE THAN IN MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN. Read More
