The Truth about the Belpre, OH/Parkersburg, WV are - 8/5/2010
I've read some bad things posted by other people and I just don't see where it's coming from. I've lived here for only two months (moved here from Las Vegas, NV.....it's really really bad there in many many ways) and in this short time I've gotten 4 jobs.

Obviously I don't work at all 4 currently, I have two jobs currently. One as a Stone Artisan, installing and fabricating granite and quartz counter tops. The other is a Pizza Delivery driver on the weekends. The other jobs I found? One was at an auto body shop, though I don't recommend it because policy and law are pretty much just guidelines here, not set in stone. In other words, under the table and against the law. But that was in Parkersburg, not Belpre. The other job was a Coin Operated Laundry Machine Mechanic. Great job, but I didn't get it because I was 5 minutes late to orientation (orientation was in Pittsburg.....about 2 hours and thirty minutes away). But now I'm at the job I'm going to stay at as Read More

sub-standard schools, no jobs, falling house value - 2/23/2010
Waiting and hoping home prices will rise so we can sell out without losing too much to recover.
the school system has failed the no student left behind standards every year recently. They had NO FUNDS for marching band, but thousands for lights on the football field. The school superintendent claims he is over-qualified as he has worked in a lengthy list of school districts, this means not one of them would keep him for any length of time.
The only decent jobs here are factory work in a chemical or plastics plant, but unless you have a GOOD GOOD friend in human resources, you have a better chance of winning the next five lotteries in a row.
It's not a bad retirement area as houses are cheaper every day, and there are a few attractions in the area thanks to being on the West Virginia border.
Driving through the Parkersburg, WV/ Belpre,OH area you will find hospitals, drug stores, bars and churches, but almost NOTHING else.

No crime, quiet corner on the Ohio River - 5/31/2006
If you work in the medical field, you can find a job easy, most places have hiring bonuses to get people in. Belpre is a dry town, right across the river from Parkersburg WV. Not a bad place to live if you like humid summers. A decent house can be purchased for around $100,000, river recreation, and plenty of Read More
