2. "Canton is a great place to raise a family. The school system is top-notch and there are plenty of parks and recreational activities for kids. The only downside is the weather can be unpredictable, with harsh winters and hot summers." - Mark P.

4. "I grew up in Canton and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it's a close-knit community with a lot of history, but on the other hand, there's not much to do here. The job market is limited and the winters can be brutal. I eventually had to move to a bigger city for more opportunities." - John R.

Please don't move here! - 6/20/2009
I have lived in Canton almost my entire life. All I can say is that Canton has become a great big GHETTO! There are no jobs, crime is rampant, drug deals and prostitution goes on in broad daylight, the "homeless" stand at every Wal-mart parking lot holding signs begging for money, all while smoking cigarettes! This city invests no money into the children of this city(believe I know, I have 5) All they do seem to care about is McKinley basketball and football. Wow we have the pro football HOF and a parade and induction once a year. This does not a city make. The income taxes are terrible(straight 2% regardless) and then they still expect you to be responsible for everything. What exactly does our tax dollars go to? I hate living here and feel unsafe at night. After I'm out of my degree program, we are leaving this terrible city and Read More

Canton's Okay - 9/21/2008
Canton's a fairly nice city (lots of trees) with better than average museums, etc., for a city of its size. However, the economy is terrible and the sight of so many stores and shops closing is depressing. People here are extremely friendly and the cost of living is relatively low. Overall, Canton's an okay place to Read More

I've lived in Canton for 19 years and have watched - 4/4/2007
you are a community activist trying to save drug addicts and prostitutes. There are absolutely no jobs other than minimum wage, if you can find one, there are tons of sex offenders, and mostly, it seems that every young man, even those with potential, are doing the only thing they can in this city to survive, better known as selling crack. There is so much drug related crime that it's scary to let your kids play outside, even in the 'nice' areas. I know four or five people PERSONALLY who have been killed over the last couple years. People don't smile and wave, they look at everyone as a suspect, for good reason. I can't wait to leave, but right now have to remain in this city to take care of aging parents. This is a terrible town to raise children or try to make a Read More

This city has terrible schools. Graduation rate is about 60% for the city. Unemployment is much higher than reported, it is just most people have run out of benefits. The crime rate is through the roof. The average non-professional worker earns around $8.00 per hour. The foreclosure listing in the weekly paper is at least two pages long. There are abandoned houses on every block. I would not recommend moving to this place if you want children and want them to have a Read More

sad Canton - 11/24/2006
I moved here several years back from the west coast. I just hate the area and the schools. But I feel the street people mentality is the worst I have ever seen. It’s like living among a community of drug addicts. Petty crime seems to be the only form of entertainment for the young and alcoholism seems to be the way of the older generation. The unemployment is high and the job wages are low. Local government says that the economy is growing; yet there are 19-20% of the residents living below the federal poverty guidelines. I feel that Canton is a places to run Read More

Crime Over Night - 10/17/2006
I moved back to Canton Ohio in 2005 for a short period. I was born and raised there. I have to tell you a real story. My wife and I moved into an apartment for 4 Months to decide where we are going to move too, because we both lost our jobs. It happened about 2 months in living there, when are Van was broken into. We were living in the nice area of Canton back then. That is when we decided to move within 2 more months out of OHIO. Canton is not a safe place anymore because of the high unemployment and the low life’s that come with it. The people are rude and do not care about anybody else but themselves that live there. This also includes people that go to church there. I could not believe how church people act there now. Canton change for the worse, this is when I left in 1988 and went back in 2005. I do not recommend Canton, Ohio for any young person to raise a family Read More

NO on Canton, Ohio.. - 8/7/2006
For a city of only 79,000.. you have a high concentration of LOW LIFE.. WAY too much, with people just out "milling around".. looking for something to get into.. A lot of sex offenders, ex cons, and the same people in and out of jail, wrecking havoc on peoples lives.... HOOKERS galore, pimps, drug dealers, and people just screaming in the streets, in the middle of the night, early morning.....CHEAP housing,is expected, and is...The really oustanding things, are that the City of Canton, has a GREAT mayor, Mayor Janet Weir Creighton, and just as outstanding, is the Canton City Police Chief, Dean McKimm..ALSO, Canton has a terrific police force...Unfortunately the mentality in Canton, what there is of it, goes in a big circle, and ends up where it started..NOT a people, with vision, for the most part..... A very prominent "redneck" attitude, prevails, and if you go outside the general mode, people run for fear of the unknown..Very clannish and clicky, with a small town mentality....LOTS Read More
