Columbus - 2/19/2008
Columbus is one of the nicest big cities you will find in the midwest.
The people in Columbus deeply loved the Buckeyes, you will find few fans who
are as passionate about their team as Buckeyes fans, whether you are a Buckeyes fan or not. Columbus has an annual Jazz and Rib Fest. Columbus also has a huge annual Fireworks show. Columbus is also home to a NHL team, the Blue Jackets.
Columbus has a strong arts scene. Columbus has an excellent zoo and aquarium.
Columbus has a strong economy unlike many metro areas in the midwest.
Pick wisely where you lived unless you enjoy listening to parties as Ohio State has aprox 53,000 students in the Columbus area alone. Columbus does have its areas with very high crime.
The weather leaves a lot to be desired. Be Prepared, the city comes to a halt
when the Buckeyes football team is

You might be surprised... - 2/7/2008
It took my employer 5 years to get me to move here from San Francisco Bay Area. "You couldn't pay me enough to move to Columbus" I kept saying, but things changed as they often do and here I am and I'm loving it! No matter where you live, you're 15 minutes away from everything. Great shopping, restaurants, sporting events, community events and lots of open spaces. There are over 15 metro parks if you like the outdoors - hiking, running, bike riding and horseback riding - it feels great to get out of the concrete jungle. The traffic, at it's worst is like a Saturday morning in Los Angeles, cost of living is good, especially if you own a home, you really get your money's worth here - it's a good place to have great quality of life. Don't judge the book by it's cover, come spend a day or two and find out for

Great Place to raise a family - 1/12/2008
My wife and I moved to Columbus for dental school and we have absolutely loved our time here. There are lots of great schools including Upper Arlington, Hillard, Dublin, Worthington, Westerville, New Albany... The list keeps going on. People seem to be genuinely nice here and there are plenty of great things to do as a family. The zoo is amazing and they also have a great Cosi (Center of science and industry). My wife and I highly recommend Columbus to anyone thinking of moving

Great city for many reasons - 12/29/2007
Columbus is a really great city. The downtown, city-life (Short North, German Village, OSU Campus area) always has great, happening events going on. There are wonderful parks in the downtown area that are wonderful places to relax and play. If the downtown scene isn't your thing, there are lots of great suburbs, including Westerville (great fun at beautiful nearby Hoover Reservoir!), Dublin, Hilliard, Worthington, and charming Upper Arlington. The higher-end suburb areas are just outside 270 starting at about Hilliard (9 o'clock position) around 270 to about Gahanna (about the 3 o'clock position). The bottom half of the city has some decent areas (Grove City is really working hard to be a higher-end area and has brought in builders of higher-end houses and some great restaurants). There's always festivals in the summer, great museums, excellent restaurants, and, of course, the Buckeyes (you pretty much HAVE to be a Buckeye fan in this town as it is a popular topic of

Well, I loved it! - 9/10/2007
I'm a Midwest native and loved my time in Columbus. Within Ohio, it seemed more expansive, easygoing, and contemporary than say, Cincinnati. And much more manageable than say, Chicago. And more varied and liberal than say, Indianapolis. (However, I think all of the foregoing cities are much more friendly and down-to-earth than anywhere I've lived on the East Coast!!!)
There is a lot to do in Columbus. I think it has been under-rated. I have lived in several other places and found it to be one of the most livable and engaging. The competition in the white collar economy is tough though.
And I didn't care for the pollution (very bad in Ohio!) or growing traffic...
But, you cannot beat the great, easily accessible (no tolls or parking hassles!), AND AFFORDABLE restaurants, sports events, art centers,
movie theaters, historic districts, shopping, and festivals!! I easily had a lot of fun there. I miss the Metro Parks, too, with far better urban

You can't throw a stone without hitting a college. - 8/11/2007
Columbus is a great place to go for higher education. There are so many great schools here, ranging in size from Ohio State's 50,000+ student megacampus to Capital University's 2000 students. Many schools, including Capital, CSCC, OSU, and Franklin have very flexible adult education programs to fit into the schedule of any working adult. You really can't throw a stone without hitting a college

Sounds like a nice place to live - 7/17/2007
I lived in MI for 34 years then moved to AZ to escape the long winters and lack of sunshine. I did find that the grass is not always greener! I realize that MI and OH have relatively short summers, but there are seasons! And colors and change! While AZ has some absolutely breathtaking scenery when you get out of the suburbs; you give up large, lush grassy yards for small, hot, rock filled ones. Every season LOOKS the same--day after day. Yes, we do have over 300 days of sunshine, but even that gets boring. Never thought I'd admit that!! Plus the sun is sooo intense, I find that even when it is not sweltering hot outside, it can be extremely uncomfortable. My kids and I do not enjoy the summers here. Too hot to enjoy bike-riding, playing basketball outside etc. We spend most of our time IN THE HOUSE during the months the kids are out of school for summer break! I go crazy trying to find things to do all day. Can't afford to drive up north to cool off, nor to spend time up there. Sure it

Safe City to live in. - 6/20/2007
I have lived in Columbus for 45 years. You can buy a house here from $20,000 up to $200,000. The inner-city homes are very cheap. Columbus City schools are mostly made up of non-white children. These schools have low academic performance. You can live in far northwest Columbus and have your kids to go Dublin City schools. Dublin City schools are known for their excellence. The Columbus City government is liberal Democrat. Columbus has Ohio State University, several hospitals, and Polaris and Tuttle Shopping Malls. There is a nice indoor gun range/trap range about 25 minutes north of Columbus near Delaware. They City is clean with no serious
