is the grass always greener? - 6/13/2006
I have lived in Ohio my whole life and long for the beach and sunshine.....but in reading all the posts, it seems everyone hates living in southern Florida and california........ maybe Colunbus is not that bad....cheap in comparison to "paridise" but It's hard to give good evaluations of any place since those who have lived somewhere their whole life will always have a tainted view of where they live. Most transplants to Columbus seem to love it here...San Diego, New york, Chicago. SO...... HOW DO U Read More

City of the future? Maybe. - 6/12/2006
Columbus has a lot going for it. Unlike other midwestern towns, it does not have a manufacturing economy and is rich in white collar jobs. It is very clean, fairly safe and very easy to get around. It has had recent growth spurts that have increased its population to over 700,000 but it doesn't feel that big. OSU helps attract more cultural activities. Prior to my arrival here, I thought since I was moving to a university town, I thought I'd find the liberal bastion of Ohio, but it is a conservative town including the college students. People are happy with the status quo, which contributes to its small town feel. All in all this is a pleasant place that is great to raise Read More

crime - 5/28/2006
Been here over twenty years, the crime gets worse every year. Car breakins are the most annoying problems, but there is typically close to one hundred murders a year. Home invasions seem to be on the rise now, for whatever reason. I live on the far west side, I don't look up any more when the police helicopter is flying over, it's such a comman Read More

Looking to relocate - 5/9/2006
I'm on here looking for a new city to relocate to. I currently live in St. Louis, MO. How liberal is Columbus? I can't really get a good read from previous postings. How's the job market, especially in the insurance field? How's the singles market, especially in terms of meeting single childless females 25 and Read More

Coolege grad - 5/7/2006
Soon to be college graduate,

I have lived in both Seattle and Columbus. Am planning on moving back to Columbus this summer. Seattle is a great town. It's about the same size as Columbus. Winters are very mild. It rains a lot but it usually sprinkles and you'd be surprised how quick you get used to it. Summers are in the 80s and sunny. Traffic is terrible. UW is a great school right in the middle of the city and you don't need a car. Everything is right there. In my opinion NYC and DC are just too big and the cost of living is suffocating. Seattle has all the cultural and sporting events too. I graduated from BGSU and went to grad school at Villanova in Philadelphia. It's a fantastic school and town also. Congratulations on graduating from Ohio State and good luck in whatever you Read More

My name is Robin and I am a student at Ohio State who will be graduating next year and I am now in the process of looking for grad schools around the country. I am also looking at the cities to try to get a feel of the place. I have some cities in mind (San Francisco, Seattle, Erie, D.C., New York, and Chicago) and if anyone has anyone suggestions or ideas I am all ears. Thank Read More

columbus does not stand out but... - 4/2/2006
Columbus never stands out on "great towns to live in" lists, but big univeresities mixed with state governement usually equal low unemployment & an educated work force. That all adds up to a good quality of life.
Excellent freeways. Crime not a big issue. Weather: typical mix of anything goes. Good shopping, schools, restaurants. Airport is decent. Not much missing that the average person would look for in quality of life.
Two funny things: people drive faster when roads are bad. The notion I am told is "if you drive faster on bad roads, you're on them less time." LOL
Second: it's the rubbernecking capital of America. Entire freeways will slow down for people to stare at some poor schmuck changing a tire. A big wreck will freeze roads up for longer than necessary, even if it's pulled over to the side & traffic can go Read More

can't drive...move to Columbus - 3/17/2006
I have seen more incidents of drivers running into buildings here than anywhere.
Also, they don't get much snow for Ohio, but definitely don't know how to maintain the streets.(I'm originally from Cleveland...HUGE difference)Rude drivers, rude Read More
