Stagnant Economy - 7/18/2007
Although I have a decent job here, there is little opportunity for advancement and the economy is going nowhere. We have a mayor who has proven time and time again he doesn't know how to do his job and/or doesn't care about his citizens. That's why I am looking to move somewhere else with better opportunites for my family. The city officials are constantly complaining of "brain drain" but with the way things are here - why would anybody want to stay when they can be offered so much more

I only have 9 months left... - 6/6/2007
I moved here about a year and a half ago, and now I'm leaving. Toledo is no place to come if you are trying to advance your career, or if you have any cultural pursuits. The only real plus about living here is that you are close to other, more interesting cities. Toledo is also good if you have a family, as the suburbs are very nice. If you are considering moving here, then use caution. Jobs are scarce, so you wanna land one before you come. If you are an extrovert, be careful...as Toledoans are cliquey and quite rude. Finally, if you have children, make sure you send them to suburban schools, as the public school system in the city proper is kind of messed up right now. Oh, and nightlife...forget about

Not the Glass City the Black Hole - 3/15/2007
I've lived in Toledo for a few years now but only because my Mother and My Step-Father are here. This town they call the Glass City is a "BIG BLACK DORMANT HOLE!!!" Its run down it has one of the highest Black population AIDS rates in the state of Ohio and there is NO WORK. And just like one of the other people wrote about the people in this town, They are rude, beligerant, and very unsocial. I've lived in Tennessee, and Los Angeles the people are pretty self explanitory in Tennessee just down home fun loving people that want to make you feel welcome. Los Angeles it isn't hard at all to make new aquatances and even life long friends. All and All I have to say don't ever move to this town it's a Black Hole and you'll never get out

Gloom and Doom - 1/26/2007
My fiance and I moved here about 5 months ago and I couldn't hate it more. This has got to be one of the most depressing places in the U.S. People are downright mean here not to mention rude! They also seem to have no sense of humor. I've honestly never felt so unwelcome by a community. It is overcast here pretty much every day which seems to suggest that the sun doesn't even want to visit. Maybe I'm just being naive. I'm from Texas and people there act as if they've known you your whole life. It's hard to meet someone who is not friendly where I'm from. I've said that to people here and they assume that I must be from some hole in the wall town. However, I've been all over Texas in many cities much bigger than Toledo and everyone has always bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable and welcome. All in all I would say that Toledo, Ohio is a very gloom and doom

Depressing - 12/27/2006
I've lived all over the country and this has to be one of the most depressing cities in the U.S. The Auto Industry and their Unions have a vice-like grip on progress in this area. People here are angry and mean. (Probably because they live here). There is nothing to do but go to a chain restaurant. The weather is horrible and the landscape is as flat and dull as the town's

Great place if you are a nurse or a truck driver!! - 12/5/2006
Those are the only two professions that seem to be in demand, other than low-paying service jobs. Toledo really has some good qualities that you can enjoy if you can find a job! Cost of living is super affordable even in comparison to the nearby Detroit area. You can get a nice house here in the older yet well-maintained neighborhoods for under $100,000 and many for far less than that. Smaller homes can be had for $65,000. And since so many people are leaving the area because of the lousy job situation, you can have your pick of the litter! Apartments go for less than many car payments. Toledo is situated in easy proximity to many great attractions. Cedar Point is an hour drive, with Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame less than an hour beyond that. You can go to Ann Arbor for the cultural college town experience in an hour. There are many things to do in town too, provided that it is summertime. There are lots of festivals to keep you busy in summer, plus the Zoo is top

Little Detroit - 11/11/2006
I found it funny that even the residents praise toledo. No, not the worst city I've been in beyond a highly uneducated population, struggling economy, bland nightlife; its hard to imagine living here. The zoo is decent, and there are some notable fine art attractions. Ofcourse if you are a resident you would be more likely to defend your city even if you didn't notice the collapse around you. Another town in the dying rustbel of the

hidden gem - 10/4/2006
I grew up in Toledo. Most Toledoens are very proud of their city. I am a big fan of the great metroparks system, the art museum, Mudhens (AAA baseball team), and the zoo. There are a number of great suburbs and neighborhoods. There are a decent amount of cultural outlets (symphony, museums, etc.) My family has found great restaurants and specialty stores that contribute to a great quality of life. There are numerous Catholic schools for kids. It is not a fabulous place for young, single, professionals (but few places are)...a great family town where neighbors are happy to get to know each

Economy - 7/31/2006
born and raised in toledo, while I dont think it is a bad place to raise a family, I think it is a horrible place to plan your future. Economy is constantly struggling and the jobs seem harder to find than ever. Very blue collar, it seems the only good jobs are in one of the auto plants, good luck getting one. I question the logic of city management, last year they wanted to lay off about 70 police and fire workers due to budget restraints, yet our crosswalks in the downtown area which were perfectly fine were being replaced with a decorative brick to improve the look of the city ????
If you are considering a move to the area, secure a job beforehand and look for housing in the suburbs (sylvania, holland, perrysburg, monclova
