Everything is relative - 9/7/2006
I have lived in Tulsa all of my life (40 years) but I have traveled a great deal across the United States on business and pleasure and I will tell you that everything is relative to where you are in life and what you need out of it. If you want a fast paced, cool, exciting nightlife kind of lifestyle Tulsa probably is not for you. We don’t have the mass transit of Chicago or the hustle bustle eclectic downtown grunge scene of Seattle but what we do have is a nice place to raise a family. I have a good job I healthcare and my kids go to a great PUBLIC school. The dollar definately goes a great deal further here than in many states.I do miss the ocean every time we leave but we have a great life in Tulsa. And if you have to get out to a gigantic city every once in a while Tulsa is 3.5 hrs from KC MO, 4 hrs from Dallas and about 6 hrs from St Louis or Memphis. All trips on one tank of Read More

Tulsa sums up the transit problems that plague mid - 8/21/2006
There is virtually NO mass transit in this city. Plenty of highways and LOTS and LOTS of cars beating the same cattle trail morning and evenings. Bus routes are inconvenient and basically add hours, not minutes to roundtrips to and from anywhere else in the Read More

Summers are extremely hot - 8/16/2006
I've lived in Tulsa for 25 years. I came to this site to explore another area to move to. Tulsa is OK except in July and August when the temps are often 98-103 in the afternoon and it will still be in the 90's till dark. In other words, you cannot enjoy being outdoors even in the late evenings. At 7:00 in the morning the temps will still be 80 degrees.
I guess it is OK if you like moving from one air conditioned "box" to another. The Spring and Fall seasons are very nice and I enjoy getting out and riding my bike then. Tulsa has a great library system too. Traffic isn't too bad except at rush hour and around noon time.

I don't believe the landscape is that great. The reason it is green is most home owners water the lawns which contributes to the humidity. The job market isn't too good anymore either expecially after the senior management team at the Williams company about put it in bankruptcy in 2002 and therefore had to sell off much of what could have Read More

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE CO - 8/6/2006
Tulsa, Oklahoma has one of the absolute worst public transit system in the nation. Their are very few bus routes, and they run only every 50 minutes; no service on Sundays. Very few neighborhoods have bus stops, and major thouroughfare streets have no routes at all. One would dare to say, it would be easier to reach your destination through antiquated measures such as horse and Read More

Tulsa is pretty nice - 7/30/2006
I lived in Tulsa for 10 years until a job transfer moved me to FL. I have to say there are many things I miss about Tulsa. Number one, the restaurants are first class. There are tons of them and many are excellent. I have lost 15 poiunds since I left, though, ha! There are many nice parks and shopping areas in and around town. There are some high crime areas and some areas that are headed that way. It doesn't take long to figure out which areas to stay away from, though. The job market isn't great, but there are worse. If you are in the medical field you're in luck. There are tons of hospitals. The cost of living is pretty low for food and housing. Tulsa Public schools aren't all great, some good, some bad. The schools south of the Tulsa area growing rapidly and having some trouble keeping up, which is leading to outrageously large class sizes... All in all though, Tulsa is pretty nice. I've been in and lived in a lot of places, and it is one of my Read More

Tulsa is a great city - 7/24/2006
Tulsa should be ranked at the top of great cities to live and work. Great shopping, fabulous restaurants, minimal traffic, historic neighborhoods, revitalizing neighborhoods, new neighborhoods, street widenings, a new civic center, two world-class museums, a hockey team, a baseball team, higher education facilities (ten plus!), state of the art medical facilities, festivals and events most weekends, farmers' market, bike and walking trails, golf courses, nature centers, and low cost of living. It's one of the best kept secrets in the country.
People who focus in on the economy and crime are ignoring the true facts. It's no worse here than in many, many midwest and southern cities. And with a new city administration, problems are being addressed and solutions visited every day.

Greatest Southern City - 7/20/2006
I read over the crime record and I was shocked. I grew up in Owasso, a surburb of Tulsa, and visited it frequently and I have never seen any kind of crime. If you watch the news you will hear about crime but it is always in the areas of Tulsa above highway 412. The rest of the city is great. The midtown areas like Brookside, Cherry Street, Utica Square, and Woodward Park are some of the nicest places I've seen in the center of a city. The southern portion of this city is where the majority of the growth is occuring and there are many new, cheap houses being built. There are also many nice lakes around the area that are fun to visit. I don't know how people could say anything bad about Tulsa. It is one of the best cities in the southern Read More

Amphibians only - 7/12/2006
I moved here a year ago from Reno, NV and almost every day I regret the move. Unless you are an amphibian the weather is abysmal. My horses and dogs are also having to pay the price for my move. The humidity makes it almost impossible to enjoy the outdoors. Unless you enjoy being soaked in sweat I would not reccommend the Tulsa area. I love outdoor activities and plan on moving back west just as soon as I can arrange to pay for the Read More

It can be a nice place... - 7/2/2006
I was born in Tulsa and lived there until I was 15. I go back to visit family periodically. On the plus side, the people are generally very nice. It's also just big enough to have the amenities of a large city without the sprawl or congestion of a large city. After moving to Houston in 1995, I had to laugh when listening to relatives in Tulsa talk about not wanting to go to certain parts of town because "it's too far" or "the traffic is awful there". Granted, I know it's all relative, but once you've lived in Houston for a while, no distances within Tulsa will seem all that far, and the worst traffic won't be anything you're not already used to dealing with on a daily basis.
There are some areas of Tulsa that are quite nice, mostly on the south side of town where most of the development of the last few years has been and in the historical areas not far from downtown. However, there are distressingly large parts of Tulsa that are quite the opposite--dilapidated Read More
