School District - 7/24/2006
We will be relocating to Eugene this fall and I am concerned about the schools in the area. It seems like most of the statistics given from the Dept. of Ed. website are not very promising. I am specifically interested in the middle and high schools - can anyone provide any info. on which schools might be better academically, less crime, etc.?  Read More

Eugene, really all Oregon, is a study in contrasts. Most of the state is rural and leans way to the right. Eugene, along with Portland, leans far enough to the left to create either a balance or a stalemate, depending on your way of looking at it.
It doesn't really rain all the time, folks - that's something we made up to keep all the people who like mild climates from cramming in here and obstructing our views. Summers are warm, sometimes hot, gorgeous clear blue skies but with zippo humidity - nice. Fall, winter, spring, there IS rain, but 90% of the time it's not so bad that you can't be out in it - more mist than anything else. (People elsewhere imagine constant downpours with thunder and lightning - not here. Actually, I only heard thunder twice in the past three years.) Winter is mild - not much need for a heavy coat unless you're going up into the Cascade mountains to ski (sometimes you need a winter coat at the coast, too, an hour due west - breathtaking, Read More

The amount of crime and suffering in this city is unbelievable (and I grew up in East LA). There are homeless people EVERYWHERE and abandoned animals begging for food. The homeless shelters are bursting at the seams, crime is nearly as high here as it is in Compton, and 1 in 4 Lane Country residents have to get food from the food bank. Living here has broken my Read More

Eugene Living - 5/3/2006
I just returned to Eugene, Oregon, where I grew-up and moved away when the economy was bad. The economy is now much better and the quality of living just continues to get better. Eugene is situated near the mountains, the ocean, and has a nice down to earth organic lifestyle. Compared to larger cities, it is a relaxed and peaceful environment and definately encourages a healthy lifestyle with bike and jogging trails all over the Read More

Fun and Recreation - 4/13/2006
Everyone loves frisbee golf, riding barefoot on scooters, not washing their hair, rain showers are the only showers we need, smoking pot helps carry on this spinning rock (get it? getting stoned), eating sushi, watching Andy Milonakis, and swimming in the dirty ass sewage water Willamete Read More

Cost of living is higher than a lot of places and getting worst every year. At the same time, wages are not that great. But...
It's still a nice mid-size town, and centrally located. Skiing in the winter, the coast, deserts great for outdoors Read More

The area is a lot of fun and there is a lot to do. Its made up of a lot of kids who came there to go to school and then decided that they hated corp america and preferred to live an el natural lifestyle. If this is something that appeals to you, this is the place to do it. You can easily sell your homemade wares at the street markets and live paycheck to paycheck. The weather is so so... rain in the fall, winter and spring. Summers are hot and the lake is crowded. The beach is only a few hours away but once you get there, its usually too cold and windy to Read More
