Lehighton, PA is a small borough in Carbon County that has a lot to offer its visitors. Great place if you like tattoos and drugs - 9/6/2012
I have lived here since 1986 due to a job transfer and have hated it the whole time. Lots of people on drugs sporting tattoos and dragging 2-3 kids around - but unemployed. A hillbilly mentality, I don't think most of the people here have ever been out of Carbon County. Half the town is shuttered, you can't get a good meal in any restaurant and nothing to do unless you like fishing or hunting. Allentown is 1/2 hour away, but you better pack a gun when you go down there, so that leaves little reason to move or stay here. I'm out of here if I ever sell my Read More

Nice little town, but . . . - 4/19/2009
I lived in Lehighton for the first 35 years of my life, then I finally had to get out. I was going nowhere. Lehighton is known for people being born and raised there and never leaving, so people couldn't actually believe that I left. If you don't have a job with the school district or at the hospital, your commute will be 20 miles at minimum. However, Lehighton has been expanding over the years because it is a rather cheap alternative to living in Allentown. My whole family is still in Lehighton so I visit about twice a year or so, and on every visit I like to check out what has changed, and the changes are usually minimal to nonexistent.
