VERY Small Town - 11/1/2009
When we moved to the Borough of Penbrook, we had no idea of what we were getting ourselves into. Situated directly across the street from Harrisburg proper, it is a tiny 0.5-mile piece of land that takes itself very seriously. The Borough is divided into 4 wards, and has its own police department, fire department (volunteer), and mayor/council. There are pros and cons to living in Penbrook. The pros are that there is a lot of police protection, and they are very available. It is also easy to take care of things in the office since there are less than 3,000 residents, and all Penbrook residents vote at the Community Building which houses the police station. The cons are that there is a lot of added bureaucracy including extra taxes, extra inspctions, extra permits, and extra stay-on-your-toes moments.
