A Wise Old Man From Windber - 10/3/2011
A wise old man from Windber,
Had a story he did tell.
Of life, and love and other things,
He made one feel just swell.

As you look around our little town,
Family and friends you will see.
Today they smile and shake your hand,
And share your life with glee.

What happens when you move away,
To places far from home.
Will you still be in their thoughts and hearts?
Or will you be alone?

Our time on earth is very short,
Only God knows when it ends.
Will you be a lost and lonely soul,
Or truly have good friends?

Riches to man are important things,
We show our diamonds and gold.
But are they truly what you want,
When you are growing old?

What heppens when you pass away,
To share eternal rest?
What value are your riches then?
Do they really pass the test?

When you are gone I pray for you,

PREPARE THE WAY - 10/2/2010
The Windber High School Class of 1955 recently held a 55th reunion in "Our town". Attached is a poem that I wrote for the occasion, perhaps it will provide and insight to "a review of our town".

The most important thought I ever had,

What you are today, is your gift from God,
Are you content with all you know?
Or do your dreams reach way beyond,
Is your stature still to grow?

Her true profession,
She softly told our class,
Was to inspire us to live a life,
Until we've reached the best at last.

What you will become,
Will be your gift to God,
So read and study and strive to learn,
Even though it may Read More

I have to disagree with the person above. It is all you associate with in your life. I have been raise in this area, and both my husband and I are very well educated.

If you work hard you will be able to secure a job in this area. Neither of us are into Nascar nor are we sports fans, yet we are extremely happy in the town of Windber. We have a young child and feel confident in our choice to raise him in this Read More

Unless you love Nascar, stay away! - 1/3/2007
Have lived here for about 18 years, and am working hard to leave. Cost of living is pretty good, many pockets of white trash/poverty/low-lifes. This area might have a play or concert here & there, but unless you are into all sports, all the time, forget it. Very high unemployment rate. All the young folks with any brains are gone ASAP. LOTS of retired, Read More
