What BestPlaces Users Say about Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and bustling boardwalk. However, many people also call this coastal city their home. With a population of over 34,000, Myrtle Beach offers a unique blend of city living and beach lifestyle. As a result, the website Bestplaces.net has compiled numerous user reviews from those who have lived in Myrtle Beach. These reviews highlight the pros and cons of living in this particular place, giving valuable insight for those considering a move to Myrtle Beach.

According to user "Jen" on Bestplaces.net, Myrtle Beach offers "beautiful weather and a relaxed beach vibe." She goes on to mention the abundance of outdoor activities available, such as golfing and water sports. However, Jen also notes that "traffic can be a nightmare during peak tourist season, making it difficult to navigate the city." This is a common sentiment among many reviewers, including "Mark" who states, "The influx of tourists during the summer months can be overwhelming and makes it difficult to enjoy the beach."

Another aspect praised by reviewers is the cost of living in Myrtle Beach. User "Samantha" notes that "housing prices are affordable compared to other coastal cities," making it an attractive place for those looking to relocate. On the other hand, "Mike" points out that "the job market in Myrtle Beach is not very diverse, and it can be challenging to find well-paying jobs in certain industries." This highlights a potential downside for those looking for career opportunities in the area.

In summary, the user reviews on Bestplaces.net offer a well-rounded view of living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While the city boasts beautiful weather, a relaxed beach atmosphere, and affordable housing, it also faces challenges such as high traffic during peak tourist season and a limited job market. Ultimately, the decision to move to Myrtle Beach will depend on individual preferences and priorities.

Finally Had To Move - 9/6/2010
Sadly, we had to sell our condo in Myrtle Beach as quickly as we purchased it because we had no idea the crime there so excessive. My husband and I kept trying to convince ourselves that we were safe in spite of all the stats hitting us in the face shouting--HELLLOOO? We subsequently learned that the police had been called to our area over 1000 times in the previous 2 years and there have been 105 violent crimes right near our community! The police keep insisting that the crime stats were "skewed" and kept blaming it on the tourists who come in and out of the city. We just weren't going to buy that anymore. We have lived in many resort areas---Western Florida, Hawaii, the Jersey Shore, etc. and there was never any such crime problem with or without tourists around. Sorry, but if you're afraid to be in your own home or to park your car in your own lot or leave your house after dark-it's time to say "enough is enough". Myrtle Beach SC - Very Affordable Costal Living - 6/25/2010
Myrtle Beach SC is a very affordable place to live near the beach. If you've always wanted to live near the ocean and enjoy the beach lifestyle without having to pay major money to do so, then Myrtle Beach, SC could be just what your looking for. My wife and I moved to Myrtle Beach SC 4 years ago and we love it, the cost of everything from gas to housing to food is FAR CHEAPER than any other area of the country we have lived in.

Quality of LIfe - 6/4/2010
I too was drawn to Myrtle Beach for it's affordable housing and lack of snow. However if you are struggling as I am then forget it, you won't find a better life here. There are no "Quality" jobs and there is no health care. I've been looking for 6 months and I was reduced to taking a job with a company that offers minimum wage with no health care. On top on that they treat their employees like dirt. People work out in the hot sun for hours and when they do get their ONE break its outside in the heat. There isn't even a refrigerator to store their water or food. Oh sure the company lets them buy over priced unhealthy food provided to them on the premises [while making min. wage] but even that becomes impossible when it gets busy as the lines are long and our breaks are only 30 minutes. They also charge us to wear their uniform and the one that really slays me..they charge us for a cup of ice. As to health care..if you are single, no kids and can't afford health care you are SOL Read More

Nice place to live. Close to Charlotte and Charles - 3/2/2010
I have read alot of peoples comments about Myrtle Beach. MOST ARE PUT ON BY OBVIOUSLY IGNORANT PEOPLE.

Look you do not move to Myrtle Beach and expect to make 100k, well maybe if you already have money and are opening businesses(like myself).

I am an entrereneur from Charlotte, NC. I lived on the fabulous Lake Norman in the town of Cornelius. A very highend area. My partner and I moved to myrtle beach to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

If you are expecting Miami, you should probably go to Miami!

The summers are great here! Great weather. I was swimming in the ocean the 2nd week of November. This winter has been cold everywhere so I do not have enough experience here with winter weather.

I live in Market Commons. but I lived of Highway 15 for a couple months which is a little sketch. The crime here is really not bad, unlike charlotte which had a murder the first 13 days of 2009.

Relocated to Myrtle Beach from south Jersey - 2/4/2010
We have been traveling to Myrtle Beach for over 3 years before moving here Feb. 09. We love MB. The cost of living is very inexpensive compared with Jersey. The people are very friendly. It is a slower lifestyle and the weather is great. It is difficult finding good labor for house/yard projects. Requires trial & Read More

Taste the Good Life! - 12/13/2009
For years I had dreamed of buying a condo in Myrtle Beach, but with my main concern being safety, I kept putting my plans on hold because of the crime stats and reviews I would read.

But as I continued visiting and talking to people and getting to know the city better and better, I finally decided to buy a condo located near "Broadway at the Beach".

I have found the South Carolinians to be just about the nicest people on Earth, and I am blessed and grateful to have found a condo for under $50,000! Where else can you buy anything near the beach for that price? I have lived at the Jersey Shore and Florida, and I have also traveled to Hawaii and many of the islands, but this beats it all!

With its mild weather year round, Myrtle Beach is both a cozy winter retreat as well as a charming summer resort. The fabulous restaurants, shops, and cultural events along with the beautiful beaches and the State Park enhance the city's charm.
