Cost of Living. - 6/19/2012
Is the Cost of living really slightly above the national average? Can you tell me an nice area to rent an apartment. One bed room, furnished that is less than $900.00/month with a washer and dryer, in a nice community near Summerville - Gated and not gated - that is relatively close to the health centers.
Thank you.Read More

Summerville, South Carolina - 8/3/2010
I have lived in a lot of states in my 32 years of life. Unfortunately I was brought to Summerville, SC by my mother and have remained here due to lack of work and money to get out. Summerville is dirty and it seems like there is no one here that has any self respect to clean it Read More

GREAT KIND OF COUNTRY LIFE BUT CLOSE TO CITY LIFE. - 3/27/2008
MY FAMILY AND I LIVED IN SUMMERVILLE FOR 3 AND 1/2 YEARS, THE CITY IS BEAUTIFUL, SMALL, WITH COUNTRY FLAVOR AND THAT KIND OF PEOPLE THAT GREEDS EVERY BODY WHILE WALKING IN THE STREETS OR SHOPING CENTERS, THEY HAVE SESONAL PARADES AND THE CRHISTMAS LIGHTS AT MAIN STREET ARE SIMPLE BUT SO BEAUTIFUL. RESIDENTS IN SEVERAL NEIGBORHOODS WE VISIT WERE FRIENDLY AND SUTHERN HOSPITALITY IS ALWAYS PRESENT. GREAT NEIBORHOODS I LEFT HOUSE, CAR AND GARAGE OPENED A LOT OF TIMES WHILE OUT AND NEVER WORRIED CRIME RATE IS NOT AS BAD AS CHARLESTON CITY (NOT EVEN CLOSE). SCHOOL DISTRICT II IS RECOGNICED AS ON OF THE BEST IN S.C. KNIGTHVILLE ELEMENTARY'S TEACHERS ARE GREAT, SECURITY AT SCHOOL IS GOOD. MANY RELIGION DENOMINATIOS, THE QUESTION HAVE YOU FIND A CHURCH? IS A MUST. FROM ONE OF THE FAREST PART OF SUMMERVILLE TO I-526 TAKES APROX (A.M.)25 MIN (P.M.)UP TO 40 RUSH HOUR. Oakbrook area of Summerville - 1/9/2008
We have lived in Summerville for 8 yrs now. We chose the Oakbrook area of Summerville. It has grown leaps and bounds in the 8 yrs. New housing subdivisions popping up all around and allot of new beautiful Townhomes.
We are only 30 west of the Charleston Airport and 45 minutes west of historic downdown Charleston and all it has to offer. Don't miss the opportunity of a good old fashion carriage ride around the city. The Atlantic can be reached in under an hour.
The eating facilities in Summerville are very good are mostly new and visually nice. Just about anything you desire is available.
We have gated communities for those who desire it. Top notch medical facilites and specialist within minutes away.
Right now it is a buyer's market if looking for a home.
There is a boat launch with free parking for those wishing to ride down the historical Ashley River all the way to Charleston Harbor. Tis truly a beautiful ride down.

SC needs to get off the urban sprawl treadmill - 6/8/2007
Although recent additions of a commuter bus from the North Charleston area to the peninsula signal some hope for the future, the greater Charleston area in general and Summerville more specifically suffer from an inability to imagine anything but creating just another suburban bedroom community. Yes, there are actually some bike lanes (and even a bike path that goes nowhere) in and around the town, but a culture of aggressive (and oblivious) driving makes biking almost suicidal at times. Likewise, the city council and county seem to have no ability to think about what kind of place they want to Read More

Too much growth - 3/29/2007
Summerville used to be a quaint historical town.........Within 10 shoert years it has become a booming desired place to live. Now you can hardly sit through all the traffic to get anywhere. Summerville is getting all the shopping we love and that saves us time but when I want to retire in ten years it may have become too crowded for my liking. We are close to Charleston and the beaches but traffic can be "fun" at Read More
