I grew up in Harriman in Roane County. In my opinion, the best thing anyone can do for themselves is to bypass Roane County completely. Harriman has the highest utility rates in the entire state of TN. All of the business have dried up and left. There is nothing there at all. Anything worth having has moved. Small town business have had to go out of business. The closest places to do any serious shopping is a Kroger in Midtown or Wal-mart all the way in Rockwood. There is no public swimming pool, no theater, no drive-in unless you go to Midtown. No bowling alley/ it is in Midtown. A skating rink is in Rockwood. The only thing going for Roane County is Watts Bar Lake. In my opinion, nepotism has ruined both Harriman and Roane County. If you want to see what I mean, check out the fine homes that belong to "officials" in Kingston, then check out the way the rest of the people live. Just my opinion.
