Wartburg is a small picturesque town surrounded by mountains. If you prefer a more fast paced urban lifestyle Wartburg would not be the right fit. However, if the traffic, pollution and noise of city life has lost its appeal, it may be worth checking out. Frozen Head State Park and Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area have much to offer the outdoor enthusiast. The hiking trails are some of the best you will find anywhere, with options ranging from easy to very difficult. The area is home to one of the most challenging ultramarathons on the planet, the Barkley. With 54,200 feet (16,500 m) of accumulated vertical climb, the 100-mile run/ race is so challenging that 55% have ended with no finishers. Outdoor activities, including camping, fishing, hunting, white water kayaking, swimming, rappelling and many more are practically in your backyard.
