Conservative couple's please move to Austin - 7/5/2006
That liberal from San Fransicko is wrong.. Still over 60% of the people that live in Austin are Rebublicans. I just wish these immoral Liberals from San Fransicko and L.A would just stay there and stop polluting the wonderful state of Texas. I also think Immigrants can find Jobs as long as they are Legal and didn't sneak in to invade this country like they are doing in California. If Austin keeps recruiting these people, in ten years Austin will be just like San Fransicko. Gay Marriage and drugs will run rampant and the word Christ will be taken out of every public arena. Please Lord, Save

Freaked out because of a Christian Music night? - 7/5/2006
This person is right. You don't have that in Southern California. That's why Texas is still great. Texas still has the core values that our founding fathers visioned. I would recommend to all of you that have a fear of Christianity not to move to Texas and stay in your secular part of the world. Texas doesn't have people suing to take down a Cross @ a War Memorial for Korean War Vets like southern California does. Try to keep those type of people out of your town Austin, or you will be like all the other bigger cities that have no moral values. If I lived in Round Rock, I would prevent that person from moving into my town. I also hope they have Christian Music night 5 days a week. Makes me want to move to Round Rock. I bet the person that was freaked out about the Christian Music night wouldn't have been "freaked" out about a Muslim Music night or a Buddist

Alergies - 7/5/2006
We are considering a job offer from UT for my husband which would relocate us to Austin from England for the forseeable future.
I saw that alergies are a problem. Can anyone be more specific? My husband has mild asthma (no medication most of the time) and is mostly allergic to mould spores. He doesn't have hayfever. Our 7 year old daughter has hayfever.
Also we'd like to live near the university. Are there any family/mixed neighbourhoods with decent schools nearby? I saw Hyde Park mentioned earlier in the postings. We lived in Palo Alto previously and my husband loved being 5 minutes by bike from his office at Stamford. Our son could cycle himself to school. We loved that freedom.
any suggestions gratefully received.

Austin in General - 7/2/2006
Lived here over 20 years - Basically very over-rated, schools decining rapidly due to massive invasion of Hispanic marginal elementary students. Many people do not have auto insurance etc. Would not retire here for numerous reasons incl property taxes approx. 400% - 700% higher than many other areas - check the figures if you do not believe this. Pay nearly $4000.00 /yr for a $150,000. value house. House insurance also is about highest in nation due to Tom Delay and the Texas Commission on Insurance being a wholly owned subsidiary of the Insurance Industry. Best

Round Rock Answer - 7/1/2006
Round Rock is in anothre county NORTH of Austin: Williamson County. They are much more conservative there. For example, I read in the paper many more blacks are arrested there routinely than whites. BTW, Dell Corp. is based there.
As far as "Austin proper"...it is quite liberal and fun. There is a big, thriving gay community and music scene. UT is a liberal college and influences the culture
