Affordable - 3/20/2008
After living in Cali for 11 years, Austin seemed pretty affordable. Even if the cost of living is affordable, the job market makes it hard to find a job

Austin is so overrated. - 3/2/2008
It is a overgrown college town. The place gets boring really quick. The top attraction is a bridge with bats under it, whoope!!! No theme parks, no real entertainmet spots other than a over abundance of clubs. The city is still relatively small, a urbanized area of less than 900,000 no comparsion too other major Texas cities. No sports teams other than a college team. This isn't big time sports in my opinion. The traffic is horrific, due to a one interstate freeway network with a couple of state highways. The terrain is beautiful, the Texas Hill country encompasses both Austin -San Antonio area. Dining options are great, but shopping isn't on par with the other big three Texas cities, Houston,San Antonio and Dallas. Great parks, but most cities have great parks. If you are not into clubs and a overated music scene, Austin isn't for you. I love really big cities, Houston and Dallas, San Antonio as well have more to offer overall. The more mature cities. Austin will get there

Quality of life - 2/28/2008
I am a mexican new in Austin. I have found a great environment, and quality of life. Blue skies, healthy air, you can feel the seasons of the year. Having so much green gives you the sensation you are in real touch with nature, and the Lakes, River. It is really good to be in Austin.
It is a city that is growing and offering good

Price of housing - 2/25/2008
As is true everywhere, the cost of housing has skyrocketed in the past (2,3?) decades; Austin is no exception. Houses that sold for 50 thousand dollars in the 70s are now priced at a quarter million dollars (or more!)
And yet, people keep flocking to Austin - despite these prices - despite the high humidity - and despite the increase in population that appears to be overwhelming the scenery and resources of the beautiful Hill Country that surrounds and embraces this

Growing economy brings many changes - 1/16/2008
The news portrays Austin as one of the most vibrant & growing cities in the nation. As I look around from my vantage point I'm debating if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I know that the economy impacts the vibe of a city, but the explosive growth of Austin over the past years has really challenged the city and most of what I loved about Austin 10 years ago when I moved here has disappeared.
The downtown is a hustle and bustle of new development. Many of the places that were fun and full of character have been replaced with squeeky clean corporate hotels, giant condo buildings and mixed use buildings that have retail on the bottom and apartments above. Some of it is attractive but most of it looks like the "McMansion" style apartments found all over the country. Build them fast and sell them before anyone knows the better is that I think the downtown development montra is going for.

Austin quality of life is good - 1/4/2008
Having lived in Austin, TX for seven years I have found that the overall quality of life is good: low home prices, low cost of living, several rivers, lakes, parks and recreational areas, liberal attitude, good city management, not too difficult to commute, good grocery stores. Only thing is the schools aren't great ....they are better just north of here in Round Rock but then you have a longer commute into
