corpus is not a good place to live - 12/16/2006
this is the worst city ever. i have lived here for 2 years and i hate it. i cant stand the heat, it is december and it was 81 degrees yesterday. no where to go shopping except the mall. no one has any style down here. the only nice place to go if you have a family is by the bay. the cost of living is low because they pay people $5 or $6 an hour at every job unless you have a college degree. the people here are all slow and not intelligent. the doctor's offices make you wait at least an hour every visit at every office. the tap water smells horrible like dirt and ocean. there are few nice neighborhoods, alot of houses look run down or boarded up. alot of crime, never quiet, obnoxious people, and they all have a million kids with a million different parents. no jobs at all unless you are a laborer, want to work at the oil refinery, or be a

Corpus Christi - 9/17/2006
Mild climate year round with high humidity daily. Rivers and lakes are scarce, however the ocean and bays are abundant and popular for fishing/beach-going. Flat terrain, few trees, not the most scenic. Mid-size city with adequate night-life, hotels and dining. Very high property taxes, likewise insurance (auto & home) are outrageous. Private schools becoming more popular, roads & public schools are not what you'd expect for the high county

easy town - 9/11/2006
Corpus is a very easy town to live in. It's big enough but not too big, good people, casual and relaxed, with spectacular winters. Many species of migratory birds make their winter habitat here. There are also stifling summer heat, the rare hurricane or unnamed deluge, bugs, and no classy entertainment or cultural events to speak of. If you're family-oriented, hate fuss, and love the sea and all that means, this is the place for you--if you can take the heat. You know you're from Corpus if you've moved away and come back. When I left a few years back (sick of the heat, hurricanes, and what I thought was boredom), I missed the gulf breeze and the birds. I desperately missed the tolerant, friendly folks, and I hated having to wear regular clothes (we live in shorts and slaps, sweats in the winter, down here). I was back in 7 months, so happy I could hardly stand it. The place gets hold of you. Daily life here is simple and just plain nice, and Mother Nature provides plenty to

ambivalence - 9/10/2006
The place gets a hold on you. A local joke is that you know you're from Corpus if you've moved away in disgust and then moved back. Corpus is an easy place to live if you can take the heat 6 months out of the year and don't particularly want to do much but hang out at the beer joint, eat so-so food at a franchise, go fishing, or brave the obnoxious people at local festivals and the malls. It's hard to get to know nice people because the natives are insular. The winters are spectacular, especially if you're a bird-watcher. Fantastic police and fire depts, still peace-keepers, to a person heroes during

Texas Gulf Coast Living Still Affordable - 8/24/2006
Corpus Christi Texas is one of the best kept secrets in the United States.
If you or anyone is interested in waterfront property that is still affordable this is the city to really consider. Over the next two years the coastal bend is going to boom. The addition of Packery Channel is just the start for this laid back Gulf Coast community. Packery Channel gives Corpus direct access to one of the best deep sea fishing areas in the U.S.

hot, and boring - 7/13/2006
If you like 95 degree heat that feels like 110 because of the humidity, you'll love Corpus. If your idea of interesting things for your kids to do includes little to nothing, except get each other pregnant at 15, then this is the place for you.
Now, I may be ranting (ok, i know I'm ranting), but I've grown up here. That may be why i don't like it. And evidently I'm not alone. I was reading a local small business periodical a few weeks ago, and came across an article explaining the new "I (Heart) my CC" ad campaign the city is paying for. The author was complaining about, well, residents complaining about Corpus. Evidently all we as a city need to do to combat gangs, teen pregnancy, crime, heat, mosquito infestaion, crappy jobs, a rotting downtown, etc, etc, is a "full scale marketing campaign" to make us feel better. Somehow, I don't think the new bumper stickers on the back of every police car, the TV commercials, street banners, and print ads are going to do it.
