My Honest Assessment of Life in Dallas After Seven - 6/19/2015
I am a transplant to Dallas. I've lived in five different states. I don't like Dallas. I loved it at first. At first it had a lot of jobs and the city seemed vibrant. After a few years in Dallas I realized that there is a very strong racial undercurrent in this town. It is extremely strong. Someone mentioned it below as well. If you are white and male, chances are you will find Dallas amenable. Even a wonderful city. If you are white period.
If you are black you will find Dallas, over time, to be somewhat of a hostile city. The hostility usually comes from the Corporate Sector here. Blacks, regardless of experience, usually are at a great disadvantage when trying to obtain certain levels of pay and position. Blacks are the least desired. The Last hired and the first fired. There is extreme racism in Corporate America here. A friend of mine works in a temporary staffing agency and he said employers call up and request workers BY RACE. They usually request white or

Just too radical and sometimes scary. Turns 40 degrees in 6 hours. Short Spring. Short Fall. Too unpredictable and too cold then too

Dallas Dallas - 4/23/2015
Been living in Dallas now for nearly 5 years, and I'm still not feeling like its home. I do give the area credit for jobs, and a fairly strong economy, but that would be about it. The area is socioeconomically segregated. There's lots of ethnicities here however, I wish the area would celebrate its diversity by offering more significant cultural events. They have events, but being that this area is heavily car-dependent, driving around isn't bad, but seems to be more of a hassle as more and more people flock here. Better public transportation would be nice.
Eating out and shopping really are the main things to do here. Sure, there's museums, some "okay" events around, but nothing really interesting. Lots of drunk driving issues here too, and my guess is that its due to boredom (Texas leads the nation in drunk driving deaths). Eating out and shopping really get old fast (and its pricey). People are all about the name brands here. Not as bad as L.A., but its

would you be happy anywhere?? I live in St Louis and believe crime in unimaginable - at least 2-3-4 ever day. I want to get out of this city. Crime is in the northeast mainly, in Dallas, try the southest . I'm from Houst and lets say east and some in southeast.
we don't wear comboy hats, drive horses to town in books and tie our horses to rails in both in cities. San Antonio is growing like wildfire!
St Louis is one of the most violent cities in the US - maybe on top now.
I left Houston (humidity, humidity) for a better job in Dalls ad loved the city - easy to get around and not the 'cowboy' influence people seem to talk about. I like to travel - my children are gone - one in
Dallas one on the outskirt of St. Louis. You couldn't pull them away with a tow truck.
I was born in Houston and moved with my husband to Dallas in '82. We loved it immediately. Very few carry guns, no more than any other state and they are

50/50 about Dallas... - 7/7/2014
Dallas is a business city. Please keep that in mind if you plan to move here, because everything here revolves around business, which is okay however, the city doesn't offer much beyond a diverse corporate business climate. After living here 4 years, I now see why the cost of living is lower than most major cities, which is its main selling point besides tax breaks for corporate businesses. Its not terribly boring nor is it very exciting either. Let me explain...
Scenario: Okay, you get the great job here, you look at housing and say, "Wow, i can get a 3,000+ square foot home for X amount of $, which is so much lower than other places." *Note: Property tax and insurance add a nice chunk to your mortgage* You take the job, make the move, buy stuff (fancy cars, homes clothing, & "stuff" you never needed to begin with) because now you have extra money. Your in a relatively safe neighborhood and your kids are in a decent school. You shop and eat out to your hearts

Do not believe the hype - 6/27/2014
Dallas has everything you want but nothing you need. It takes the notion of crabs in a barrel to a new level. It’s funny because churches are everywhere, along with poster of biblical quotes, but the people here act angry all the time and give southern hospitality a bad name. Racism is blatant in the job sector and some people are ridiculously hateful. They do things here that you thought only happened in the movies. It is the only state that has a requirement that they need to see a photo of you before they interview perspective job candidate even if you are licensed and have years of experience. It is very segregated with extreme examples of wealth and poverty and the pollution is horrendous, especially in the City of Dallas. People are very unhealthy here festering on poor diets. The freeways are a mess. Now I know why Texas calls itself the “lone state”. And don’t believe the bling about the booming job market unless you want to work in the service industry, like Whataburger,
