Decent Town Declining Fast - 11/22/2021
Grew up here and things are heading south quickly. Affordability? That's been thrown out the window since 2014. Traffic? Be prepared to sit through unsynchronized traffic lights along FM 1709 all day, and forbid you hit a train if you're trying to go west. Always schedule 10-15 minutes on top of the projected time on Google Maps to make it in time. Obviously the weather is not great given it's in Dallas-Fort Worth, which makes your homeowners insurance stupid expensive. Property taxes are insane given a small 3-2 home is going for 330K with multiple offers. The school district is decent, but no better than Northwest ISD or the better schools of Birdville ISD. Every time a new large development comes in, tons of residents march down to City Hall to complain about a declining 'small town feel,' but in the same breathe complain they do not have the same retail/dining options as Roanoke and Southlake.
Keller is very safe and the park system is great, but that is where it stops. I am Read More

The WORST most invasive city council - 9/18/2020
The WORST most invasive city council you could imagine.... they want to micro manage your entire property.... After living here for over 20 years now they are telling me I can not replace my fence since they changed the rules last year but I have to move it against my house because I live on a corner lot. Not only will that vastly decrease the size of my backyard, but I will have to have my entire backyard sprinkler system re routed and two trees removed. The City of Keller is NOT where you want to raise a family nor would you want to live somewhere where power mad politicians make decisions about your property costing you thousands of dollars in both actual expenses and reduced property value. The City of Keller is unresponsive, unreasonable and not worth your trust or tax money. Stay FAR FAR Read More

Horrible oppressive heat - 4/18/2013
Moved here from the Midwest to the DFW metroplex in 1996 and Keller in 2002 and still cannot handle the oppressive summers that start in May and last until November. If you can make it through 8 months of the hottest hot the remainder of the year is beautiful. Forget about going outside for 8 months because you will have heat stroke. Get ready for outrageous air conditioning and water bills and lots of sweating. You will need to water your landscaping daily to keep everything from dying as well as watering the foundation of your house to keep it from shifting in the dry soils. Lots of foundation damage here. Property taxes are sky high as well as insurance rates on both home and auto. I don't find the Texas natives very friendly at all but excessively patriotic. Animal welfare is pathetic. Traffic? Oh boy, it's 30 minutes to get anywhere. By now you can tell I hate it here. To hot, hard to make real friends. Yes home prices may be low but at what cost? Not worth it. Read More

Life in Texas - 2/29/2012
I moved here from California in February '2007 with a very open mind. Five years later I want to go home to California. I have had nothing but struggles here in Texas. Lots of good people here but the rude people are really rude and the drivers drive very dangerously. I can guarantee you will get cut off and practically run off the road every single day you choose to pull out of your driveway. Californians are even better drivers. I really miss CA and definitely appreciate now the diversity there. I think I can easily overlook the phoniness of CA in return for leaving a state like TX that has tornadoes, hail and very loud thunderstorms that keep me awake all night. Not to mention the hail. In Summer the heat is excruciating, the sun beats down so hard you feel like you're going to die if you don't get out of it. You really cannot go out much and enjoy the outdoors because the extreme weather conditions just don't permit it. And most of the jobs are low paying. It really doesn't matter Read More

Why Keller, TX is a great place to live - 10/17/2010
Being in the DFW Metroplex, Keller doesn't have the best weather around, especially in the spring when the weather can and does get violent. Keller is well laid out, and has a sense of community. The crime rate is very low, and the people are un-pretentious, despite having a median income well above average. Housing is affordable and of good quality. The property taxes are astronomical, though. (Approx 4500 for a 175,000 house). The school system is considered excellent, but I don't think it warrants the high taxes. Overall, I rate Keller a big thumbs up> I have been living here for 11 years, and have not regretted the Read More

Climate - 4/3/2010
The weather in the entire DFW area is not great in my opinion. Summer heat and humidity is unbearable. You rarely see kids out playing unless they are at outdoor pools with tepid water. The home electric bills can easily exceed $400 per month for an average size home due to high demand for air conditioning. Spring and Fall are both nice but of extremely short duration. Winter is completely unpredictable. 70 degrees one day and 28 degrees the next. Scenery is flat and brown for the most part. People are very nice and you will be able to purchase a large home for a very reasonable price. Affording to run it, pay the property tax and maintain it, is another Read More

Great place, has lots of growth. - 10/10/2007
This area is growing and is becoming the center of the DFW metroplex. Estimated 16000 new residents in the next few years. Planning for development is already underway for housing, malls, big stores and more. The only thing that is not in this area is big Read More
