SWEETWATER TX ON THE EDGE OF THE BIG COUNTRY. - 5/26/2019
I've lived in the area in or around Sweetwater for a number of years, having come from the east coast. Fewer people per square mile than back there for sure is what is attractive to me about the area. Sort of dusty, windy and quiet. For some that might not be at all attrative. However, it is a decent place to live and raise a family. And yes there are many job opportunities of all types. From wind farm jobs to gypsum production including making the panels and moving them by truck. The oil business is booming. There are a number of shops and restaurants. The place is legendary for it's schools including sports programs that have produced some very well known athletes. Then there is the annual rattlesnake roundup that occurs each year in the spring. People literally come from around the world to attend. The flavor of this community is rich but probably not for city Read More

Sweetwater is very afforable - 3/7/2019
Sweetwater is a simple small city. I like Sweetwater because of its affordability, friendly citizens, no traffic and good climate. The housing costsare very low; for instance you can buy a fine house for under $100k and a fixer upper for under $10k. I have found many friends in the last five years to come to parties; etc. the only place in town where it’s kinda busy is Wal Mart; do no driving stress. The weather is good overall; but can be windy and changeable. On a more critical note, Sweetwater has no movie theaters , zero fine restaurants, dust storms and a fair number uneducated poor drifters. Overall, Sweetwater is a good place to raise a family, but a difficult place to be single.  Read More

Avoid Sweetwater like the plague (lived there 1 - 1/18/2007
I would never live there again under any circumstances. Smart aleck punks in the public schools (bullying etc). No jobs, low wages, real redneck mentality, (look down their nose at anyone who isn't a redneck) socially backward. Elementary and Jr. High well rated , but the High School is a disaster on quality of "Education". The corniest place I ever lived and I have lived in big cities, small, tiny farming communities, mid sized suburbs, you name it. Would have left sooner, but my father was in the oil business there .(The oil and cattle business have since fallen dramatically in the town) Unless you believe that Friday Night football is the biggest thing in life (it is practically a religion there, the High School treats football players as being on a huge pedistal, avoid Sweetwater.Kids that left there were not well socially adjusted and had problems when going off to College) The "big deal" was hanging around the courthouse square on weekend days. Social life of zero. If you weren't Read More
