What BestPlaces Users Say about Danville

Danville, Virginia is a small city located in the southern region of the state. It has a population of approximately 40,000 people and is known for its historic downtown, natural beauty, and affordable cost of living. However, like any other place, it also has its fair share of pros and cons. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Danville, we will be summarizing user reviews from BestPlaces.net, a popular review site for cities and neighborhoods.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Danville seems to be a mixed bag for residents. Many people praise the city for its charm and friendly community. One user, Linda, says, "I have lived in Danville for over 10 years and I love it here! The people are so welcoming and the cost of living is unbeatable." Another resident, James, echoes this sentiment, stating, "The people here are just so kind and helpful. It's refreshing to live in a place where everyone knows each other." The close-knit community in Danville seems to be a major selling point for many residents.

However, there are also some drawbacks to living in Danville. Some users mention the lack of job opportunities as a major downside. Tom shares his experience, saying, "I moved here for a job and quickly realized that there aren't many options in terms of employment. I've been struggling to find something better for years." Another user, Sarah, adds, "The job market is really tough here. I've had to commute to other cities for work, which can be exhausting." This is something to consider for those who are looking to relocate to Danville for work opportunities.

One of the most common points mentioned by users in their reviews is the natural beauty of Danville. Many people appreciate the scenic views and outdoor activities the city has to offer. As one user named Michael puts it, "The landscape here is simply breathtaking. I love taking long walks and hikes in the nearby parks and trails." Another resident, Emily, loves the peacefulness of the area, stating, "Living in Danville has allowed me to reconnect with nature and escape the hustle and bustle of city life."

On the other hand, some users mention concerns about safety in certain areas of Danville. John, a resident for over 20 years, shares, "While I do love the city, I have noticed a rise in crime rates in recent years. It's important to be cautious, especially in certain neighborhoods." Another user, Maria, adds, "I've heard about some incidents in my neighborhood, so I always make sure to lock my doors and stay alert when I'm out and about." As with any city, it's important to do thorough research and take necessary precautions when living in Danville.

In conclusion, reviews from BestPlaces.net indicate that Danville, Virginia has its ups and downs. The friendly community, beautiful scenery, and low cost of living are some of the positives, while the job market and safety concerns should also be taken into consideration. Ultimately, it seems like a suitable place for those who prefer a smaller, quieter city with a strong sense of community.

Wonderful Place to raise a family - 4/26/2017
I have lived in Danville all of my life(almost 30 years). This town has been through some ups and downs but as I get older, I have realized how great of a town that Danville is. Everybody knows everybody. Recently my employer opened a new office in the heart of the River District in Downtown Danville and I LOVE working in the heart of the city. We are within walking distance to all of the little shops and locally owned businesses. I love the way that everyone is joining together to rebuild Downtown Danville and improve the city all together.  Read More

Danville is in a state of revival. Its beautiful river and numerous parks, its quiet walks and enviable sunsets are but a few of the natural amenities the city offers. Artists are appreciated here; they're often asked to speak. History is abundant here in a fascinating and vital way. Cultural activities are enhanced by the proximity of bigger cities less than 75 minutes Read More

A mismanaged and miserable city - 4/5/2015
In my opinion, all of Danville's problems are rooted in their poorly managed government infrastructure. I have been here for 3 months and the entire time I've been here, the water has been largely undrinkable because of the presence of algae that causes a foul taste and odor and a cloudy white appearance. Danville has done little to resolve the problem. In addition, I was surprised when my first month's utility bill was $330 for an 800sqft apartment that I kept at 60 degrees in the winter and was rarely ever home in. When I spoke outraged to my coworkers about this, thry confirmed that that is actually the norm and that Danville utilities overcharges everyone. The downtown area is decrepit because the city does little to entice business growth. The landlords feel free to abuse you because the decent housing market is thin. If you're used to shared services like libraries, clean water, and a government you can trust, stay away from Danville. Read More

Inexpensive - 12/31/2009
Having lived here with my parents since 1989, I have seen positive changes. First according to my parents, this is the lowest cost area they have lived in (Having lived in Southern Maryland, Hampton Roads, Cincinnati) This is the last capital of the Confederacy and at times a few do not think the war is over. There are allot of churches, two colleges, well kept infrastructure and pretty good schools. We are close to Raleigh, Greensboro NC, Roanoke, Lynchburg VA. The coast is four hours to the east and skiing 1.5 hours to the north. Come Read More

Sounds great! - 3/19/2009
Justin, sounds like the perfect place to live! Conservative, absolute values, Bible believing community. I've visited Danville twice and one thing Justin failed to mention was the beauty of this town. A mall, parks and recreation with an active plan of events, a multitude of churches for all denominations, and a minor league baseball team. And the cost of living is well below the national average. Life is what you make it and Danville has all that anyone could possibly need to fulfill the American Read More

Not the ideal place for me.. - 1/2/2008
Danville Virginia is an okay place to settle if you are white, make at least 40k/yr and want to live in a small quiet city where not much goes on. I am all of the above with the exception of the last. It's no secret that small souther cities/town tend to be more conservative and old-fashioned; Danville is no exception, and I want no part of it. In my opinion, it is not an ideal place to start a family due to the prejudism and close mindedness of the people that live here.

Don't get me wrong, some of the nicest people you will ever meet live in Danville. But as a whole, Danville is not very tolerant to people of different races, sexual orientations, or people who just have different views and opions on Read More
