As a medium-sized city located in central Virginia, Lynchburg offers a diverse array of attractions and amenities for its residents. Its strong economy, affordable cost of living, and scenic beauty make it a popular choice for families, young professionals, and retirees alike. However, as with any city, there are always differing opinions on what it's like to actually live there. To get a better understanding of the day-to-day experience of living in Lynchburg, we have compiled and summarized user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to user "Julie," Lynchburg is "a great place to raise a family. Good schools, friendly people, and plenty of outdoor activities." Many others echoed this sentiment, praising the city's family-friendly atmosphere and opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking, biking, and camping.

On the other hand, user "John" had a different opinion, stating that "Lynchburg is a bit too conservative for my liking. Limited diversity and a lack of cultural attractions make it feel stifling." Other reviewers also mentioned a lack of diversity and cultural offerings as drawbacks to living in Lynchburg.

One consistent aspect mentioned in the reviews is the affordability of Lynchburg. User "Amy" noted, "Housing prices are much more reasonable here compared to other cities in Virginia." Finally, user "Mark" summed up his experience by saying, "Lynchburg is a great place to call home. It's not too big, not too small, and has a strong sense of community." This sense of community was mentioned by multiple reviewers, who also praised the city's strong economy and low crime rate.

Overall, the user reviews of Lynchburg on BestPlaces.net paint a picture of a welcoming and affordable city with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. However, opinions on diversity and cultural offerings vary, highlighting the importance of considering personal preferences and values when deciding on a place to live.

Lynchburg is a wonderful place to live - 7/4/2007
Of all the places I've lived, Lynchburg is my favorite. It is a small city that feels like a small town. It is a great place to raise a family. It has a lot of parks in the city. In less than four hours you can be in D.C., at the beach, visit Jamestown (just to name a Read More

Differing view - 5/12/2007
We used Best Places last fall, and came to our #5 recommended city(2,3,&4 were in FL, and we wanted out). Lynchburg looked good on our 2 week visit, so we packed up and moved here. With the exception of one wonderful neighbor, we deeply regret moving here. There are few jobs with decent pay, unless you fit into the education, healthcare, or neuclear industries.

There is virtually no middle class: it's a great place if you have money, but most of the neighborhoods are less that desireable. The city is trying to make a comeback, but without a middle class, I see little Read More

Agree with Maggie About Falwell Country - 4/10/2007
I've lived in Lynchburg for seven years and regret moving here for many reasons. If one is single (regardless of the reason), without children, other than a Southern Baptist, other than conservative Republican, and 'not from here,' did not graduate from Virginia Tech, enjoy diversity, cultural events (other than Falwell's) this is NOT the place for you. For years LBG bragged about the 'low cost of living' which might have been true at one time. However the lack of cultural diversity, religous and ethnic intolerance, lack of jobs, low pay scale (mostly minimum wage and a 'good job' pays less than $25K a year), clanishness and cliques, and being subjected to forever being the 'ultimate outsider' makes Lynchburg undesireable. This year, thank goodness I am out of Read More

Great place for families - 3/1/2007
Lynchburg is a great place to live, especially if you have a family and like outdoor recreation. Safe, some great schools (some not so great too) with abundant natural beauty. Unfortunately, housing has been growing less and less affordable. While it is still less expensive than most big cities, the job market and pay levels aren't keeping up with the housing Read More

Not for most americans. - 1/14/2007
Unless you are extremely religious or have children, I do not suggest coming to Lynchburg to live. There is no night life, there are not any bars (just restaurants that serve alcohol), there aren't any great dance clubs or hang out spots, good restaurants (except chains) there isn't even a decent movie theater and the mall is small and outdated. You will have a hard time finding things to entertain yourself or even meet people. Don't bother living here if you are Catholic either. This certainly isn't the place for you. Also, if you live here, getting out of here is hard if you want to drive any where or fly anywhere. The closest airport is over an hour away and you have to dig yourself out of the mountains to drive to the nearest highway which is 45 minutes away. If you are under the age of 40 without children, you will have a hard time even getting people to come and visit you. After over 3 years of living here, I am sick and tired of seeing "real men love Jesus" bumper stickers and Read More

lynchburg has positives. - 1/2/2007
Having been born and raised in Western NY, i had the chance to stay in Lynchburg a few yrs ago. Didn`t stay very long, but i did get a good feel for the area, and what it has to offer.Coming from the state of TAXES,Lynchburg has alot to offer to the middle class resident.Housing is reasonable, taxes are afforadable, and the education thats available is very good. One must also consider that there is a top notch university, in Liberty University in its own back yard. Although there is a very strong religious presence in the area,it beats many other areas in the country as far as living a christian life. Did anyone know that if your child attends the high school on Liberty campus, that their 4 yr college expenses are covered if they want to attend Liberty !!!!.Not a bad area after all, is it ??.Sounds like a great place to live and bring up a family to Read More

Great place to raise a family - 12/29/2006
Lynchburg is a great place to raise a family. You can experience all four seasons here, without too many extremes. It has beautiful scenery in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. It is, however, like moving back in time twenty Read More

Lynchburg VA - 9/9/2006
We moved to Lynchburg from Olney, Maryland (a suburb of Washington D.C.). The good: no traffic, incredibly affordable (you can buy a very nice house in the $200K - $225K range), good healthcare available, great four seasons (but not a heavy winter) and in a beautiful setting near the Blue Ridge Mountains. The bad: There is a very tight community of old-time money here. My first impression was that Lynchburg was very cliquey, almost like high school! Strong influence of the religious right due to Jerry Falwell's presence here with Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University. It is definitely a conservative community. Our son goes to an excellent elementary school, but the overall school system is hit or miss. We were shocked to find out that Lynchburg has the second highest drop out rate in Virginia. If you have never lived in the South before (like me), Lynchburg can be a shock to the Read More
