What Happened to This Nice Little Town? - 6/8/2017
What happened to this city? It used to be such a quaint and friendly place. The environment has changed drastically and radically from a warm and caring populace to a punitive and restrictive populace. The majority of businesses in this town are customer-oriented, yet, no one is able to, or wants to service anyone. There is always a reason why someone can't do something. You're not safe on the roads because people won't follow the rules. Giving a signal before passing or changing lanes does not require a Ph.D., people. The food used to be top-notch, but nowadays, the fast food places are filthy and the food is quite nasty. You can't go to any outdoor events because you're told you can't park (but they want your money), and you can't enjoy outdoor events because every last person in this town smokes, which causes migraines and secondary lung disease. You can't go to the movies because like every store in Lynchburg, there is only one cashier. If you want to see a movie, if would be Read More

Nowhere near recovering - 3/5/2017
In General Lynchburg does not have many opportunities. The professional occupations pay a dollar or 2 above minimum wage and then try to guilt you in to staying. Many companies have come and gone and the jobs that are replacing them are worse. There used to be a dollar theater which has closed. There also use to be another theater in the plaza area which closed about a decade ago. The major employer in the area is actually Liberty University which is extremely difficult to get a job through. There is high turnover for almost every business in the area. Some companies have fired employees and then hired them back as contractors so they could avoid paying benefits and still pay the same amount. The other major businesses in a 20 mile radius are also on the verge of closing. Harris Corporation has had a few layoffs since 2008. Genworth has closed and replaced by two other companies. The mall is on the verge of being empty and being transformed into whatever the university wants to do Read More

Wanting Something Better - 5/7/2014
I grew up in rural Minnesota, went to a Junior College in North Dakota, moved to Miami for five years and worked, After that, I moved to New York City for work and lived there for four years, and ended up in Fort Lauderdale to raise my family. We are still here twenty-two years later but have such a want to live and work in Lynchburg to put my special needs son through the law school at Liberty University. My neighborhood has changed so much that the day i was moving my son to FAU last fall for his first year, I was almost killed from a hit and run incident very close from my home. I don't care about people saying that Lynchburg is for religious people. If anyone stops and takes the time to do the research necessary before making a move, they will see that people of faith are generally happier, healthier and more giving. In order to be employable, you need to be a well-rounded person. It may be true that the wages are lower, but the cost of living is lower.

Lynchburg - 12/25/2012
I will make it simple for everyone to follow:

The good--plenty of places to eat for a smaller city, the mountains are nice, a handful of great people

The bad--most of the people I encountered are fake, there are politics where it concerns jobs (hidden, but can be found), crime is a bit high for this size city (being from NY, Lynchburg has more crime, pro-rated, than Ronkonkoma, LI, NY--where I grew up), weather is very erratic, economy is weak, but the prices are a bit higher than should be here (lies come when being asked)

To be fair, it is not the worst place in the world to raise a family, as long as you understand what comes with a small city (approx. 72,000 Read More

Quality of life in Lynchburg, VA - 7/18/2012
Lynchburg is beautiful with many good people. However, having lived there for nearly three years, I was very, very happy to leave. For the most part, Lynchburgers fear diversity and change. While it may be a good place to raise children for some, we found the prevailing racism, homophobia, and intolerance to be a challenge for raising children who will eventually leave home and enter the world beyond the Central Virginia region. We wanted our children to have the best start we could give them. Unfortunately, in our opinion, Lynchburg was not the place to do that.  Read More

Lynchburg is a great place to live! - 1/19/2012
I've lived in Lynchburg now for 12 years and there have been alot of changes for the good. There is so much to do here and it's a great place to live. Anyone who says otherwise is someone who would be unhappy wherever they lived. We have great restaurants live Olive Garden, Neighbors Place, The Craddock Terry, The Depot Grille, Waterstone Pizza, Panera Bread, and more coming. Target now is a super store with a full grocery store. The Blackwater Creek trails near the city are awesome. Peaksview Park has tennis courts, basketball, mountain bike trails, frisbee golf course, many baseball and soccer fields. Liberty University has some awesome mountain bike trails, SnowFlex is something that people come to from all over the east coast for year-round snowboarding and skiing, the lodge up there has a stunning view with a fireplace and cozy couches. we have nice schools, libraries, we have the Lynchburg Orchestra, several music stores, we have ice skating and hockey games. The Dollar Theatre Read More

A LOVELY MID-SIZED CITY - 1/21/2011
WE HAVE LIVED IN LYNCHBURG FOR 8 YEARS AND LOVE THE AREA. COST OF LIVING IS REASONABLE AND THE AREA IS BEAUTIFUL. LYNCHBURG IS NICKNAMED THE HILL CITY AND HAS LOVELY VIEWS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INDUSTRIES HERE AS WELL AS SEVERAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THE JOB MARKET AND HOUSING HAS NOT TAKEN AS GREAT A HIT AS OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE AND COUNTRY. WE ARE CONTEMPLATING MOVING TO FL BECAUSE WE WANT A WARMER CLIMATE AND WITHOUT SNOW OR ICE. MOST OF THE LAST 8 WINTERS HAVE BE MODERATE.  Read More

Progress, but not quite Progressive... - 1/3/2011
I'm pleased to report that many undesirable negatives identified in some of these posts have been resolved in Lynchburg within the past 2-3 years:
1. Nightlife. There is a beacon of it in Rivermont Pizza and City View. The former offers live music almost nightly in a relaxed, chill and young people-heavy environment. The microbrews are delicious and hipsters converse with lawyers. The latter offers a dance club scene that provides a remarkable view of downtown.
2. Dining & Coffee Shops: For the size of the city, both are abundant. Main Street Eatery, Robin Alexander, and the all-too-cool Dish are my faves. For coffee shops check out the Muse (a second location opened by Memorial Ave offering Friday music events)Drowsey Poet and the White Hart. You can knock out books in a few hours with these original anti-Starbucks. Love them.
4. Adventure: Should you be talented enough to spin a heli off a tabletop, then you can't beat the Snowflex. But if standard skiing is your Read More

Jerry Falwell's Rapture Cult - 9/24/2010
Do some investigating for yourself. Investigate the who, when, and where the so called pre-trib rapture cult came from.
Trace the money and how it built Liberty University. Tim Lahaye and his false pre-trib doctrine, what a joke!
