Mineral and Virginia;s second largest lake - 1/4/2010
Having spent the part quarter century visiting, camping, boating and living in the Mineral, VA area, I want to introduce the viewer to Lake Anna, a 13,000 acre, 17 mile long lake with a 250 mile shoreline, most of which is available for and hospitable to individuals and families looking for a chance to get away from the hustle of the urban areas. Lake Anna, built in the early 70s for the North Anna nuclear power station, boasts a state park, great fishing and boating in a clean, well managed setting. While hotel rooms are a bit sparse, inventory is growing and rental homes provide a wide range of living arrangements and price levels near and directly on the lake. The lake and nearby Louisa offer a modest range of restaraunts along with the basics in shopping and services. While Mineral proper has only a few hundred residents, the close surrounding area has several times that and is growing as the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Charlottesville urban areas grow toward the lake area.  Read More
