Cost of Living and Housing - 4/7/2009
I may be moving to the Newport News area for a job relocation soon. I am wondering how the economy is there. I currently live in pittsburgh, pa and am a new Rn looking to get out of Pa. Am wondering if anyone knows what new RN's make starting out there. I am also wondering if anyone knows anywhere around the newport news area where the cost of housing is decent and the neighboorhood is a nice area. I have a 5 year old daughter so am very conscience about crime and the neighboorhood i would live in. Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions or Read More

DO NOT MOVE HERE - 8/2/2008
I moved here from Seattle about a year ago because of the military. NN has a high crime rate, the streets are dirty, the attitude of the people here is horrible. The public health department does not visit local restaurants, you can tell by the grease on the walls. (Just watch some one handle your food...yuk) The cost of living is crazy, affordable if you want to live in the ghetto, and if you want to pay more....you just move into a nicer ghetto. There is so much racism here against anyone who isn't African American, and people do not hide it. The only thing good about NN is that it is in the middle of every where else that you shoud live. The traffic is getting a bit out of control due to the population growth; So, I suppose the gas pumps are a necessity. Many of the schools are getting old, and Newport News really needs to find a way to improve their funding. The Virginia Lottery is suppose to help with some of our school funding, but it's rarely discussed. I hope things improve for the teachers and the students. They deserve Read More
