What BestPlaces Users Say about Longview

Background information:

Longview, Washington is a small city located in the southwestern region of the state. It has a population of approximately 36,000 and is known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and affordable cost of living. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Many people have shared their experiences and opinions about living in Longview on the website BestPlaces.net. Here are some excerpts from four different user reviews that provide insight into the daily life and overall atmosphere of this particular place.

1. From user "Anna1221": "I've been living in Longview for 10 years and it's been a great place to raise a family. The schools are good and there are plenty of activities for kids. The only downside is the job market, it's not very diverse and can be hard to find well-paying jobs."

2. From user "JohnSmith78": "Longview is a beautiful city with a lot of natural beauty, but the cost of living is higher than I expected. The housing prices are inflated and the property taxes are on the rise. It's becoming more and more difficult for families to afford to live here."

3. From user "OutdoorsyGirl": "I absolutely love living in Longview. There are so many outdoor activities to do and the community is very friendly. I've made some great friends here. The only complaint I have is the lack of diversity, it can feel a bit closed-minded at times."

4. From user "BigCitySlicker": "I moved to Longview from a big city and it's been an adjustment. The pace of life is much slower here and there aren't as many entertainment options. But the trade-off is the peacefulness and safety of the city. I enjoy being able to walk around at night without feeling on edge."

Laughs @ lib reviews. Reality for the rest of us. - 7/24/2021
Had to laugh at the reviews written by the liberal wackos from Portland.

Longview is NOT Portland. If you want LGBTQ, defunded police, a weirdness factor of 15 on a scale of 1 to 10 blah blah blah, then head South for an hour and it will run into you there. However, we in Longview appreciate meat and potatoes, country music (not rockabilly), hard work and more fun than should be legal. We also recognize God and the police. No Read More

Trashy town, but there is an untapped gold mine. - 5/15/2021
I lived here since 2014. It started off bad, got worse with trumps crazy a**. If you manage all this, you might understand the "gold mine"

Customer service is the worse in this town and I traveled, a lot, lived in many towns. This is the wannabe south, kind of like wannabe gangsters, sometimes they are worse, like the song said, "real gansters don't flex ***s cause they know they got em" =-P. So you got a lot of wanna be "south will rise again" folks being extra.

You can tell conservatives own businesses here because the staff reflects the management and management reflects owners. Just look at reviews, on any business lol. There was a new BBQ place recently opened and comments about owners,, yes owners, not wearing masks, but had "medical excuses" lol what no face shield then? Cant hire someone instead?

Frack burger had an owner I think he hustled old folks or something. Google it, there was something in the paper about it it a few years ago. Read More

Trash town - 3/16/2021
a town started as a white utopia, not much has changed! Racist, homophobic town! Mayor uses her religion in her job to discriminate against gays! Library budget cut because they tried to help with diversity in area! A local school played ring around the monkey with a black child, and a town that will support blue lives matters for months at a time, yet did nothing for black lives matters, but express their trashing with proud boys and proud boy wannabes! A town ran by real estate companies pushing out the poor, and diverse to make more money! Read More

Not a bad place at all! - 2/9/2020
I stay there often as I was buying land a bit further west in Skamokawa. Its not a bad place-plenty of stores yet not too much traffic. It has many scenic waterways. Dining is ok but would prefer more salad bars- an Indian Buffet would be nice. People are friendly enough. The town was economically depressed but as Seattle and Portland become too crowded and expensive, this area will Read More

Overview of a City in Trouble - July 2015 - 8/6/2015
This is an overview of current conditions and problems facing the residents and leaders of Longview, Washington from the perspective of a resident of only nine years in Longview. Living in Longview was wonderful, and the city has a beautiful setting and offers much in the way of potential quality of life. But Longview is in serious trouble governmentally and economically, and the infrastructure is rapidly deteriorating due to lack of maintenance and poor decisions by the city’s leaders. Only the active participation and commitment of the citizens to take back ownership of their city and community and to hold their city leaders accountable for their decisions will allow this city to survive and thrive. Much must be rapidly overcome in order for Longview to once again be a wonderful city in which to live.

Beautiful little mill town - 10/11/2009
I grew up in Longview, moved away to the madness of Southern California in my early teens. Live in in the Arizona desert. Always relished our visits back to this peaceful little town. The center of the town, the draw, the beauty, is majestic Lake Sacajawea, around which much of the town's activity takes place: 4th of July celebrations, every event you can think of, walkers, joggers, bikers, just those wanting to savor the beauty of the Fall season as those incredible and ancient leaves change colors. I am contemplating moving back to my hometown, for it's beauty, it's simpleness, and to raise my two 9 year old daughters. You might have to hit the hwy and on down to Portland to find a decent restaurant....but this little hamlet holds a special place in my heart. And my high school sweetheart lives there. Ah the Read More

genereal - 11/25/2008
I have moved here and resided here for 2 years now. My own personal expierences are that the employeement rate is extremally low and hard to find a good job. The cost of living is farely good, The cost for food is kinda a bit above average. You do need a car to get around to place because the bus on runs form 6 am to 7pm and only once a hour each way. People here are kinda strange, they say are your friends but then turn around and can be mean behind your back, so makes hard to trust to many people. The rate of drugs in this city is extramely high for a small town. There is nothing fun to do but out doors things. over all, It is not a good town and i would not advise any one to move here unless it is to buy property and work in a bigger Read More

Where I live now - 12/25/2007
Where I live now is Longview, WA. Did not choose to live here by my own choice originally, but am adapting. It certainly is the cheapest place to live (neck and neck with the Kelso, Centralia/Chehalis) area on the I-5 corridor in Washington. For a Read More
