What BestPlaces Users Say about Seattle

Seattle, Washington is a major city located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, thriving tech industry, and vibrant cultural scene. However, like any city, it has its own unique set of pros and cons when it comes to living there.

According to reviews on BestPlaces.net, many users have shared their experiences living in Seattle. Overall, it seems that the city's natural beauty and diverse population are highly praised, while the high cost of living and traffic are common complaints. User "Samantha" writes, "Seattle is an amazing city filled with art, nature, and opportunity. It's a melting pot of different cultures and I love the diversity here." Similarly, user "David" says, "The scenery in Seattle is breathtaking. You have mountains, lakes, and forests all within reach." However, the cost of living is a recurring concern. User "Emily" states, "The cost of living here is exorbitant. It's difficult to find affordable housing and the traffic is terrible." Another user, "Mark", adds, "I love Seattle but I wish it was more affordable. The high cost of living can make it challenging to enjoy all the city has to offer."

In responce to the post regarding religion in Seattle I have to sadly agree with the original poster. There are alot of people in Seattle that are religious but not spiritual. They stand on their mighty thrones and and proclaim how religious there are but many times they are worse than non-christians. They don't follow the spirit of their relion at Read More

Avoid Seattle - 7/22/2006
I've lived in Seattle for over ten years and I am glad to be moving away from it.

Seattle is a very clean city, has fresh air, little crime, and the people are polite. However, IMHO Seattle is a boring place to live
and although people are polite they tend to keep themselves to themselves and I would descrive them as "politely unsociable".

It is VERY difficult to get into any social circles here. Most people I've talked to only have, at most, two friends outside
their family unit. Most socialization is within the family unit and rarely extends outside of this.

Where I grew up I knew all the people down my street. You could wave to them and say good morning and they would wave back.
However, if you try and do that in Seattle, they would think you're crazy and give you a strange look and speculate what criminal motive
you have. Seattlites are extremly paranoid and afraid of eachother.

Like grey skies? - 7/14/2006
Like grey skies? We got 'em 9 months a year. Slow drizzle makes for exquisite slop in which to schlep upon the obsolete infrastructure. Bring your million$ Read More

God is dying in the northwest - 7/14/2006
you said to comment on a topic. I've been born and raised here. Gone to church my entire life. My comment is that I have seen a growing hostilit towards those who choose to be a person of faith by those who see no value in such a belief system. It's become so bad that you almost don't want anyone to know you are a person of faith, for fear of retrubution. It wasn't this way 30 years Read More

Overpriced housing - 7/12/2006
Despite the low crime and laid back living, Seattle is fast becoming one of the most expensives places to live. I am born and raised here for the past 35 years and the living allowance hasn't increased in over 5 years, while the housing, gas, food, and taxes have increased. Thanks to the out of town buyers, I can't even afford to buy a home in Seattle! It is highly frustrating! I am looking elsewhere to settle down and buy a home...perhaps Ashville NC. Promising economy and affordable homes is what Seattle use to be 20 years Read More

You make some great comments about the third world. That is why I am moving out of the Bay Area. I am moving to Seattle, but cannot comment on my experience yet. All I can say is stay out of the Bay Area if you do not want third world Read More

Bring your sheep skin - 7/6/2006
I've lived here too long! Have stayed because of mother and relatives. But let me get to the point. If you want a job here in Seattle you had better be ready to compete for that retail clerk job with a hundred others that have a BA in something or another. There are more people with BA's here than anywhere else except San Francisco. You know what S.F. like? It's Seattle in 5 years. Great if your a yuppie and make 70K a year. Listen I know what I'm saying. I lived here on and off for 30 years. This place has gotten way too expensive ratio of wages to cost of living. Don't believe me check it out! Also the thing they say about people here and their friendliness its oh so true! I'll be freindly but I really don't want to be your freind. Its also true about diversity. It's here. But than again it's the norm not the exception. A lot of smugness. One more thing. When you move here from a semi sunny enviroment remember that around December to April you better hide those razor Read More

Beautiful, but difficult for young families - 7/6/2006
Having lived in Seattle my entire life, I can attest to the many, many wonderful things that it has to offer. Every time I travel, one of the best parts is coming home to the trees, the mountains, the water, and the wonderful people that makeup the city. Nothing beats the pristine beauty, the logical and level-headed political climate, the appreciation for art, music, good food and of course good coffee. (No offense, Starbucks, but there are so many MUCH MUCH MUCH better coffee roasters in town).
But sadly, I have witnessed an economic squeeze that has become uncomfortable - even unbearable. The cost of housing has recently jumped from really high to totally out-of-reach. Gas is so ridiculous that it took us over 4 months to unload our 4Runner on Craigslist. It takes nearly $60 to fill a Maxima. Meanwhile, salaries just aren't keeping up.
Back to housing. Sure the median price is $420k. But that is the median for a home (not a house, so this includes studio Read More

the northwest - 7/5/2006
My wife needs a milder climate due to a medical condition. After having researched Portland well, I am looking at Seattle also! By the demographics, these seem to be our placees to consider. I was looking at Vermont originally. We don't want all the third world around us. Don't these people know they offend us when they dress in that attire. I don't wear swastikas, or dress like the Blues Bros. with a beard. The women can lighten up a bit and dress like the Indian women, not like for death in the desert.(black) Most of the men look like Hamas, not all. We want a better world for our daughter, with outdoors and the city ammenities. Chicago does not have desireable recreation!Too many cars and people! One has to drive so far. My wife is educ.from Moscow Univ.. It is too much to contemplate a move there. We would like to be around the Russian area. I understand Seattle and Portland have Russian! We watch figure skating, not world wrestling, or Howard Stern. Any advise on pros and Read More
