Manitowoc: a great place to visit and live - 2/3/2021
Manitowoc is a great place. The city has done a remarkable job in the last few years attracting new higher-end, fun businesses: the Wharf, Waterfront Wine Bar, Manitowoc Coffee, Pizza Garden, Brix, Kustom Kanvas on York, Pet Skull Brewing Company. Strand Adventures is great for kids too. The lake front (overlooking Lake Michigan) is gorgeous. Walk to the lighthouse! Check out the Badger too. When I stay downtown I stay at the Econolodge (ask For "Ank"). I'm excited to see that Manitowoc is building a new Riverwalk entertainment district at 10th and York. If you are moving there, the north side of Manitowoc is the best... low crime, nicer homes. Both in town and on the outskirts of town there are beautiful homes (and some mansions) on Lake Michigan. Try it, you'll like it as we did :)  Read More

A quiet, relaxing getaway - 5/24/2020
My family and I come to Manitowoc frequently. We have invested in properties here because we love this quiet, quaint town. The farmers market is so cute. I love being able to buy anything from plants to many pickled goodies. You can fish and kayak on the water as well as enjoy biking or riding mopeds. We love to get Thai food from Vue’s as well as enjoying some of the other amazing restaurants here. They have just built a Meijer here which is waiting to open. We have met some really nice people Read More

Not at all the Northern Exposure was sold to us :( - 5/12/2020
Wish we would've read these reviews before my family was coerced with a job offer to move here.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CITY!
Agreed everybody is eachother's cousins one guy warned, there's little to nothing for entertainment, unless church counts? If the parks aren't closed.
A local's only mentality plagues this tight knit community.
There's nothing welcoming about the area or the people.
My family moved here for a job transfer in engineering but soon found out about so many of the closed companies, crashed or dying housing market due to harsh winds, flooding & mold concerns.
The real lack for people talking to your face instead prefer to call an outsider only to stab you in the back to ruin your creditability.
The people are so desparate for jobs which leads to a lack in trusting sensitivity, and there's such an unpresedented amount of low level common courtesy.
If you ever watched Northern Exposure series then it's the opposite hereRead More

Nice - 11/3/2017
I've lived here most of my life, I'd agree with some of the things others have said about this community but not everything. This is a good, clean, low crime, friendly, beautiful place to live.
I agree that the shopping here is lacking and if your not looking to work in manufacturing then this isn't the city for you, but if you don't mind taking a 30 minute ride for decent shopping and don't mind a hard days work, then everything else here is great.
We have everything you could ask for if your an outdoors kind of person, we have the Greenbay Packers Stadium just 30 minutes away, Milwaukee Brewers just 60 minutes away, we have a small water park,
swimming, beaches, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, bike trails, camping and festivals all summer and into fall.
We also have a car ferry that runs to ludington, mi twice a day.
If you would rather spend your time inside then we have museum's, coffee shops with internet, movie theater, The capital civic center Read More

Great Place! - 1/13/2016
Manitowoc is a great place to live if you want to live with crooked cops and be framed for murder. The police are great at planting evidence, coercing confessions, and lying in the courtroom. Good Read More

Nice, but not much here - 11/17/2012
I have lived near Manitowoc for 5 years. There are few good-paying jobs here, but lots of minimum wage jobs. Lake Michigan is beautiful and provides a nice place to relax, but that's about it. There is NO shopping here...we have Wal-Mart and Shopko and when everyone heard a Kohls was being built it was the talk of the area for weeks. We suffer from typical small town mentality, but the people are friendly for the most part. You'll have a hard time if you're not a native and will pay your dues before being accepted, but it can be done. :) We're close to Green Bay and Sheboygan, which adds shopping and recreation choices. If you are looking for small town atmosphere, conservative people and a slow pace of life you'll lik it here. Also, you better like winter and snow because 7 months of the year are cold and we get lake effect snow dumped on us in huge amounts. 2 years ago we had 94 inches of snow over the winter (November thru May) and the previous 2 years from that we had over 50 Read More

corrections on information - 1/13/2011
The city of manitowoc has a population of over 30,000 not 15,000. While the resession has hit every where manitowoc has been lucky because some of the manufacturing companies have closed down else where and focused on their locations in manitowoc, keeping jobs here. Read More

Interesting town - 6/17/2009
Last year my wife and went to Manitowoc she grew upin this town. The lake was amazing and the town was just the way she said it was except for the mall and a couple of new individual stores opening. I would go back and visit again but would not consider moving up Read More

Not a fan!!! - 10/9/2006
This area is unlike any area I have ever lived in. There is a lack of just about everything here including friendly people. The shopping is almost obsolete and the resteraunts are terrible. If you like winter, days without sun, and nothing to do, then you'll love it here!! If you love to drink beer, then this is your place, there is a bar about every five feet!! The beaches have been closed most of the summer due to e-coli. Socially, you pretty much better be a native or they don't want anything to do with you. They are closed minded, scared to move forward and try new ideas. The housing selection sucks! Their kids programs leave a lot to be desired!! Looking forward to new opportunities, SOMEWHERE ELSE!!Read More
