Come on vacation, leave on probation - 3/2/2018
It's a nice place to visit, but I would not want to die there. I lived there between 1975 - 1983 and moved out within a week of graduating from college.

It has no local economy to speak of other than logging and tourism. Jobs requiring a college degree are far and few in between. You have to leave there to get a college degree (I went to Houghton) and since you're gone if you're smart you'll stay gone.

I visit there because I still have family there. For the love of God I can't figure out why. It does have beautiful scenery and outdoor activities but not much else.

My wife will only go there in the summer time. She doesn't care for the winter weather.

It has a hospital called DCH (Dickinson County Hospital) but the locals say the initials stand for "Don't Come Here"

I prefer Detroit over Dickinson County. What does that tell you?
