What BestPlaces Users Say about Arkansas

Arkansas is a Southern state known for its natural beauty, diverse landscapes, and charming small towns. With a population of just over 3 million, it offers a slower pace of life and lower cost of living compared to many other states in the US. However, it has also faced challenges in terms of economic growth and access to quality education and healthcare. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Arkansas, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to user "Kathy" who has been living in Arkansas for 3 years, "It's a peaceful and laid-back state, perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities." However, she also mentions that "job opportunities are limited and the education system needs improvement."

Another user, "Samuel", shares a different perspective, stating that "Arkansas has a lot to offer in terms of outdoor activities, from hiking and camping to fishing and hunting." He also adds that "the people are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to feel at home here."

On the other hand, user "Rachel" expresses some concerns about the state's safety, stating that "crime rates are high in certain areas, so it's important to do your research before choosing a place to live." She also mentions that "the hot and humid summers can be unbearable for some people."

Finally, "Mark" who has lived in Arkansas for 10 years, highlights the state's natural beauty, saying "it's a gorgeous state with plenty of scenic drives and charming small towns to explore." However, he also mentions that "access to healthcare can be a challenge, especially in rural areas."

Overall, opinions about living in Arkansas vary among users. While some appreciate its peacefulness and natural beauty, others highlight challenges such as limited job opportunities and healthcare access. It's important to consider these factors when considering a move to this state.

Depends on where you live - 4/4/2017
I live in a small town at the very edge of Little Rock and I love where I live. Having said that, there are places in Arkansas (especially in LR) that I would not live, even if the rent was free. My small community is a truly ideal small town. My only complaint is the heat and humidity, which can be unbearable in the summer. A person can walk from their office to their car in the parking lot and need a change of clothes. It is REALLY unbearable, at sometimes 105+ and very high humidity. Winters are not horrible, with probably an average of 3 days per year of snow in central Arkansas.

BUT - there are some beautiful places for scenery, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing. We have really beautiful natural springs and lakes, as well as some really nice man-made lakes. If you enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, lake activities, etc., you will really enjoy it here. Unless heat bothers you. Then you might just want to vacation here in spring and Read More

School Districts - 1/6/2016
I am seeing some reviews that Arkansas is the worst place to be for jobs, and out of all the cities Springdale is the absolute worse, the school district is made up of don't speak English fools, that like to stab people in the back. If you are a teacher or administration looking for a job stay away from Springdale school district they suck, they treat people like dogs!! and if you try to bite back, you get sent to the dog pound. This town is gung ho about their sports program they will build 20 million dollar buildings but don't have the room for preschoolers even after they build the school, I have never seen so much money wasted in my Read More

Most Dangerous City Under 200,000 - 2/24/2015
Little Rock, Arkansas is the #1 Most Dangerous Small City in America according to the 2014 data released by the FBI. Little Rock has moved up by four spots to #1 on the list after coming in at #5 last year. The city’s overall violent crime rose from approximately 1,315/100,000 people in 2012 to 1,407/100,000 people in 2013; this increase is responsible for Little Rock’s rise on the list. However, there may be some good news. While Little Rock’s overall violent crime rate is up, the murder rate is down by almost 22 percent.

Violent Crime Rate: 1,407/100,000 people | Murder Rate: 18/100,000 people

Population: 197,399 | Officer to Population Ratio: 1:354

Median Household Income: $45,135 | Pop. Below Poverty Line: 18.2%

If you want a quiet, cheap place to live, with a moderate climate (mostly warm, hot for 30-60 days, cold for 30-60), come here and bring your own money. Getting a job here is difficult, pay is terrible. If you weren't 'born n raised here', they don't want to talk to you, let alone hire you. Ignorance and closed-mindedness is rampant--nobody believes any ideas unless they come from the church, the bible or Fox news. "Obama is to blame for everything". Have their heads in the sand and refuse to pull it out. (northeast arkansas location)--oh, and better be white and speak hillbilly Read More

Yep - 7/9/2013
Benton, and Arkansas in general, is a pretty backwards place.
I have lived here all my life and these are a few of the things I've learned.
People here are extremely conservative and judgmental. Most Arkansans love Jesus but hate your guts. Especially if you are gay, a Democrat,non-protestant or non-white.
There is little to no opportunity here. Even with a degree a high paying job will be hard to find. (BTW 50,000 is considered a really good salary) Because most of the residents are xenophobic, if they don't know ya, they won't hire ya! Think minimum wage for 80-90% of jobs. Also this is a right to work state so unions are useless.
If you do have money to buy something don't forget the tax. Sales tax and income tax are higher than the national average. The only places to shop are big chain stores and metro areas are far apart, so expect a drive. (Gas is NOT cheap either.)
Housing IS cheap but the housing is mostly crap. Lots of mobile homes, meth Read More
