What BestPlaces Users Say about Illinois

Illinois is known for its diverse population, vibrant cities, and strong economy. However, like any state, it has its pros and cons. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Illinois, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, many people love living in Illinois for its cultural diversity and opportunities for career growth. For example, user "JohnDoe24" writes, "I've been living in Illinois for over 10 years now and I absolutely love it. There's always something to do and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming and diverse." This sentiment is echoed by "Liz1987," who says, "I moved to Illinois for a job opportunity and I'm so glad I did. The mix of cultures and people has been enriching and the job market is constantly growing."

However, not all reviews are positive. Some users mention the high cost of living in Illinois, specifically in cities like Chicago. "CityLife19" expresses their frustration by saying, "I've lived in Chicago my whole life and while I love the city, the cost of living is outrageous. It's almost impossible to afford a decent apartment and still have money left over for other expenses." "MidwestGirl22" also shares her experience, stating, "I grew up in a small town in Illinois and while I miss the close-knit community, the cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years. It's becoming unaffordable for many families."

On the other hand, some users appreciate the slower pace of life in smaller towns in Illinois. User "SmalltownLiving" shares, "I've lived in various small towns in Illinois my whole life and I wouldn't have it any other way. The cost of living is much more manageable and the sense of community is strong." Similarly, "NatureLover86" says, "I moved from a big city to a small town in Illinois and I have no regrets. The slower pace of life and access to nature have greatly improved my overall well-being."

Overall, it's clear that opinions about living in Illinois vary among its residents. While some appreciate the opportunities and diversity, others struggle with the high cost of living. It's important for individuals to carefully consider their priorities and do research before deciding if Illinois is the right place for them to live.

Living in Illinois - 3/1/2011
2011...Illinois has probably the worst budget deficit in the US. The majority of the towns and cities have higher property taxes than most also.
The winters really aren't very enjoyable. So that leaves April thru October
(6 months) for enjoyable living. Unless you live near a larger city, don't plan on many cultural events---it's pretty much Read More

We all must follow the work!! - 9/28/2010
I live in a small town in central Illinois it's not a bad place to live if you are self employed or are able to work from home. We are about an hour and a half from everything and every where (Kankakee, Champaign, Bloomington, and Laffite Indiana). Housing is not cheap and their is not a lot of local business. So if you need to run to the store for something and you don't feel like a long ride it's going to coast you. the other bad thing is the weather in the fall and/or winter it's very cold, windy, snow, and ice yuk yuk yuk.
On the bright side the people are friendly and the schools are great.
Unfortunately people must work, a lot of people take the ride of a day but I just cant see 11to 13 hours a day and only getting paid Read More

Corrupt - 8/2/2010
Chicago is the most corrupt city in the most corrupt state in the USA. I reside in the far northwest suburbs, so I don't have to deal with the taxes and high cost of living that the city folks have to endure. But even though I live outside Chicago, I still have to deal with the cost of living all of Illinois citizens are plagued with. I intend to retire elsewhere where a fixed income and pension are not subject to the tax happy politicians of Illinois. Read More

Edwardsville IL - 3/27/2010
Edwardsville is a real nice town. Safe, clean, friendly. I graduated from SUIE in 2004. the great part about Edwardsville are the scenic drives, beautiful SIUE campus with much to do, bike trails and it's only 20 min from St. Louis. The elementary schools are great and the High school is beautiful! On the down side, there are no jobs there and the few jobs that are in the area don't pay much. The police there are very annoying as Read More

Illinois is cutting funding for schools - 3/21/2010
The Illinois state government is cutting funding for schools. They are not just cutting a small amount. The Oakwood township school system is being cut $800,000 this coming school year and this is causing a huge cut in programs and teachers. Read More
