What BestPlaces Users Say about Iowa
Iowa, nicknamed the Hawkeye State, is a Midwestern state known for its rolling prairies and beautiful cornfields. It is also home to vibrant cities like Des Moines and Iowa City, as well as smaller towns with a strong sense of community. With its affordable cost of living and strong job market, Iowa attracts many residents looking for a balance between urban amenities and small-town charm. However, every place has its pros and cons, and it's important to consider multiple perspectives before making a decision. In this case, let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in Iowa.
"As a lifelong resident of Iowa, I can confidently say that it's a great place to live," says user Sarah87. "The cost of living is very reasonable, and there are plenty of job opportunities in various industries. I also appreciate the strong sense of community and the friendly, down-to-earth people here."
According to user MidwestTransplant, "I moved to Iowa from Chicago a few years ago and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The pace of life is much slower and more relaxed, and the cost of living is significantly lower. I also feel much safer here compared to the big city."
However, not all reviews are positive. User CityGirl82 shares, "I grew up in Iowa and I couldn't wait to leave. The small towns can feel stifling and there's not a lot to do here. I also feel like opportunities are limited, especially for young professionals."
On the other hand, user AdventureSeeker22 has a different perspective. "I moved to Iowa for a job opportunity and I've been pleasantly surprised. The people are incredibly welcoming, and there are actually a lot of hidden gems and fun things to do here. Plus, the cost of living allows me to save up for my next big adventure."
In summary, Iowa seems to be a great choice for those looking for a laid-back lifestyle, affordable living, and a strong sense of community. However, it may not be the best fit for those seeking a fast-paced city life. As user MidwestTransplant said, "Iowa may not be for everyone, but it's definitely worth considering."

Excellent education from elementary through university levels
Low prices for homes and food
FRESH, cheap food all summmer and fall
Safe neighborhoods
Friendly folks - if you're clean-cut
Independent movie theaters, small film festivals, concerts and theater
Fun small-town events
Good fishing (if you like lake\river fish)
Nice bike trails
Green, green, green as far as the eye can see
Shortcomings:
Freezing winters and hot, muggy summers
98% white (if you're not white and/or not clean-cut, it might not be for you)
Choice of ethic restaurants is still slim though increasing
Tough on those with bad allergies
Iowa wages are lower for the same job than other regions, for example teachers aren't paid very well in general
Hope this
