What BestPlaces Users Say about Michigan

Michigan is a state located in the Great Lakes region of the United States. Known for its beautiful lakes, forests, and bustling cities, it is a popular destination for tourists and a beloved home for many residents. However, living in any place comes with its own set of pros and cons. In this case, we will take a look at various user reviews about living in Michigan from the bestplaces.net website.

Overall, the majority of users seem to have a positive experience living in Michigan. One user, Chris, states "I have lived in Michigan my whole life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. The four seasons, the friendly people, and the natural beauty make it a great place to call home." Another user, Rachel, echoes this sentiment by saying "I love the sense of community in Michigan. People here are genuine and always willing to lend a helping hand."

However, there are also some negative reviews from users who have had less than desirable experiences living in Michigan. A user named Brian shares, "The winters here are brutal. The snow and cold can be unbearable at times, and it lasts for what feels like an eternity." Another user named Sarah adds, "I have found that the job market in Michigan is quite competitive and it can be challenging to find employment in certain industries."

Despite these challenges, others have still found joy in living in Michigan. A user named John says, "I moved to Michigan from a big city and was pleasantly surprised by the affordable cost of living here. I can finally save money and enjoy a good quality of life."

In summary, Michigan seems to be a state with a lot to offer, from its natural beauty and friendly people to its affordable cost of living. However, it also has its drawbacks, such as harsh winters and a competitive job market. Overall, it appears to be a great place to call home for those who value a strong sense of community and enjoy the changing seasons.

Jackson, Michigan - 11/15/2007
In my view, Jackson, MI has a long way to go to get past its depressed look and stagnant feeling. Although there are some cultural events at the local community college, a resident still needs to go to Ann Arbor or Lansing for a fuller cultural life. Nevertheless, the area has a wide range of areas, from rural to city life, and there does appear an attitude focusing on growth and providing citizens with more opportunities (i.e. a 10 mile bike/hike/walk trail was just Read More

If you have a job - Michigan is a lovely place to - 10/11/2007
I love the State of Michigan. Right now, the economy is not at its optimum level...due to the taxers and spenders who currently hold office at the highest levels here.

That being said, Southeastern Michigan offers a lot if you like to play golf, go boating, cross country ski ,etc. weather permitting. Sports, here offer a lot, especially if you are a baseball, basketball, or hockey fan. Cultural Events are available if you are careful in your selection. Ann Arbor is especially nice for cultural, college sports and dining.

REPlY: To Michigander that moved to Arizona - 9/22/2007
Hello!

I really appreciated your comments, and yes the economy in Michigan is stifled. However, a good network (friends, relatives, agencies) etc. is one of the determining factors, for successful leads and interviews. Jobs are advertised, but it appears that qualified human capital has been difficult to obtain, especially, high-tech positions. In addition, a new perspective on career choices, and skill transferability, may assist you too, for increased income options. Michigan appears to be on a slow progression of increasing their economy. New industries, and new job occupations, from casino, hotel, and restaurant industries, will be opening soon. Of course, there are other industries as well, these mentioned because there within my immediate locale.

I empathize with your situation, and change in activities, for your children, because of the extreme climate. Is there a public library nearby, that offers free activities, or programs that your children, Read More

Michigan Economy - 8/20/2007
As many of you already know, Michigan's economy is in dire straits! There are SO many factors that are affecting our economy that it's ridiculous. The big three becoming the occassional three which affects housing and the rate of foreclosures here which is high. I don't need to mention that crime here, in particular here in Detroit is out-of-this-world.

We need some place to live that is relatively safe for our daughter and ourselves; where the turnover rate of the housing market isn't a revolving door; where pitbulls aren't flying out at you; where working people aren't getting shot over their car when they're trying to go to work etc. etc

We're not here to rant, we're here to find a new place to live for ourselves and our daughter.
