Trying to move!!!

Came hear a few months ago after a couple of visits to the area. Had every intention of living the rest of my life here. Thought everyone was going to be accepting and helpful. Truth is... They are nice and helpful when your a tourist. They will gladly take your money. But if you want to move here and don't have a well known name around town or a lot of money, you are looked at like a piece of crap. Forget about getting a job. Employers here are some of the nastiest and rudest people I have come across. And to be told by TWO HR people at two different companies that I don't have a 'Southern enough, accent or southern charm' so they couldn't hire me is one of the most discriminating statements I have heard. My husband applied for a laborer position with the town after having worked in a government capacity for more than 21 years building streets and was actually sent a letter saying they hired someone with 'more qualifications.' It's the 'good ole boy mentality' here. Was even told by several people who have lived here all their lives that this town is all about recognized names and old money. Have had warmer receptions at a funeral. Sorry, Abingdon. My love for you is dead.
