Good and Bad points

I swore I would never live in Banning and here I am for 14 years now. When I moved here it had a reputation of being a crime infested ghetto with lousy schools. It was definitely run down. But over the years I think the local government has tried to improve Banning. They have rebuilt many historical places and Habitat for Humanity is quite active. They primarily rebuild old houses. At first I was quite impressed with the elementary schools. They have all day kindergarten and our kids did quite well. But a couple of years ago the principal defended the schools' decision to not teach science and social studies saying it was a state mandate. Yeah right! Our kids go to private school now. If you were to drive through Banning and you were from LA or somewhere, you would not be impressed. We live in an unincorporated area of Banning on our own piece of paradise - a ranch - in a rural, secluded place. We love our land but Banning itself is not that great. It's not as bad as we originally thought though.
