Thinking about moving to Bend with the family, I've visited a bunch of times and love it there. My biggest fear is the cold winters. I read your post and I live in town I think would be a perfect fit for you. I live in Fremont, CA. Weather has been great this year, I think it rained only a couple of inches all winter and reached 70 degrees many days during the winter. You do have to deal with the new water rationing rules though. You can buy an 1100 square foot house built in 1950 with a flat roof for 500k in a sketchy neighborhood. But the plus side is you get all colors of houses you want, pink, blue, green, a lot of houses don't even have paint left on them. There are plenty of well paying jobs here. If your well educated with experience and can compete with the brightest young minds from China and India you can land a high paying job in the high tech industry. No roundabouts here, just a traffic signal at every intersection in town. All the main intersections have red light cameras. It takes me 30 minutes round trip to take my daughter 2.5 miles to school in the morning. Courtesy towards other drivers in non-existent. Most drivers are so busy on their cellphones they won't even know your there. Traffic laws are rarely enforced so you can speed around town and honk at bikers and pedestrians all you want. In a desperate attempt to save children's lives a lot of schools have giant speed bumps in front of the school. But I have seen drivers take these at 40 to 50 mph, so don't worry, just make sure everybody and everything is strapped down. Welcome to Fremont!
