Review of Bend, Oregon

Bend is the most over-rated town in Oregon ...
Star Rating - 7/28/2018
I was born in Bend, my parents grew up in Bend and I loved Bend almost my entire life. In fact, I moved back to Bend to retire in the mid 2000's. It has become a town of strip malls, cheesy resort stuff and the home of the homeless. Yeah, there are quite a few (often quite smug) rich folks, but the town is littered with heavy drinkers, pot smokers and other lowlife who move here to ski, mountain bike, etc. and earn their minimum wage dollars waiting tables and pumping gas for the rich folks.

As of the "82 average high temp" ... ? That figure is the average from 30 years of NOAA data from 1980 to 2010.

How about meaningful info for you ....

July 2017 daily highs averaged 91.3 with 23 days of 90+ heat.

July 2018 daily highs averaged 95.2 with 21 days of 90+ heat.

(fyi, the 2018 data is from actual recordings thru' 7/26 and from Weather Underground forecasts for the last 5 days of the month.)

Don't believe everything you read/hear from the Chamber of Commerce or the Real Estate Sales community.

"Have a Sparkling Day in Central Oregon" is the tagline of the local Fox News affiliate's weatherman. More like "Have a Scorching Day in Central Oregon".

I agree...like most places in the Northwest the weather isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. While summer highs are averaging 10 - 12 degrees over the historical norm, evening temps do stay quite cool for now. I suspect that will change as well as climate change continues it's pace northward. The hot dry weather is really taking it's toll on trees too. The last 3 -4 summers have been hallmarked by dangerous, choking wildfire smoke! Trails are so dusty by early May whereas it wasn't until late July or August until hiking got hot and dusty. Bend Oregon will feel and look more like Phoenix Arizona in another 10 - 15 years if the climate continues it's current course in the lack of precipitation and relentless year round heat, relative to historical norms!

Will, it sounds like your review is completely biased. You are living in Portland, where I see more homeless people and more dirt and garbage than almost any other city in the USA, and you say Bend is the "home of the homeless"?? You have no frame of reference. Have you ever been to the East Coast or the Midwest? As for your "findings" on the heat index in Bend that is a joke... Bend is not hot at all in my experience and in fact Portland has had more heat waves. You are picking and choosing your data, and with no references I really don't believe those numbers and neither should anyone else. Stop being bitter about the fact that you can't live in downtown Bend. Most people would be hard pressed to afford to live in downtown anywhere.

Me again, I see that 3 folks have disagreed with my assessment of Bend. I stand by my "opinion" in the 1st paragraph ... The weather info is from the US Gov't data as well as the archives of the Bend Bulletin ... the best "excuse" for news available in this town.

It's really silly to throw "pot smokers" in with "other lowlife." Doctors, construction people, business, and other well-established and responsible people smoke pot.
