Review of Blairsville, Georgia

You have got to be kidding me...

First of all, you need to get your data straight-there are more than 6oo+ people living in Blairsville. With the lack of convenience, decent restaurants, and social activities (other than activities for the elderly) I could see how it may feel that only 600 people reside here. I must give credit where credit is due-Blairsville is a beautiful place. The mountains are beautiful, the land is spread far and wide, and some of the old properties look like a postcard of yesteryear. As with many things, beauty can only get you so far. It's the quality that counts. There are several "mom&pop" restaurants, which most are ok at best (if you like fried, greasy and cheap). As far as daily convenience-forget it! The closest place to really purchase anything is Atlanta (1.5-2 hrs.). I could go on & on. To sum it up for you-Blairsville is a wonderful place to end up. So when you’re towards the end and you’re looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to come to- Blairsville is a great place to come to die because excitement is something you will not find here.

Something is wrong with this site! "Best Places.net" surely has more comments and replies than the ones available/posted. The oldest I've read is dated 3/21/2007 and the most recent is 8/2/2011! Please find more recent ones or put out a bulletin to get more Blairsville, GA residents, former and present, to respond to you. As for myself, most places are what one makes them. I understand that the younger, single set would not find a small town like Blairsville terribly exciting. However, I've adjusted from living and working in the Atlanta area, which I did love. It was nice to go to the Braves baseball games, the Atlanta Symphony, etc.... As for shopping, Atlanta people use Amazon and HNS, among others, as much as we do, who live in the beautiful NE Georgia mountains. There are nearby cities and towns that are a delight to visit a.w.a. go shopping. I believe Blairsville is a great place to raise a family. There is more to the Southern Appalachian mountains than hiking and sight-seeing. The school system here is excellent and our sheriff, police and fire depts. are very good. They take a personal interest in the folks who live beyond the city limits, too. They work together with nearby counties, such as Towns and Fannin a.w.a. our own Union county. More people are moving in at a great rate. We have more good restaurants, and as far as Walmart is concerned, a super-sized one is in Blairsville and there are others nearby, such as Blue Ridge, GA and Murphy, in southwest No. Carolina, approx. 12 miles from center of town here in Blairsville. Now, I say (and agree with Shelly) go move to Atlanta if you like a lot of traffic, big time slow downs on all their interstate hwys. GRID LOCK, BABY! I lived and worked in it for more than 30 years. Moving here has given me a fresh outlook on life in Georgia!

Wonderful!! So, you can go back from where you came from and leave this beautiful place to those of us who love and appreciate it. I would RATHER drive 2 hours to Atlanta to get the things I need that aren't in Blairsville...that way I appreciate even more the serenity here. Love Love Love Blairsville. I thank God every day for leading me to this place to live. If you want the convenience of larger cities...stay there. More room for us here.

I agree wholeheartedly. I lived there in my mid to upper 30's and it was like a horrible nightmare. There were mountains hike, that I loved, but that is where my love affair of Blairsville ends. There is NOTHING to do there and I had to drive 20 plus miles just to get to a Walmart for toilitries. To eat out at a decent restaurant or shopping all the way to Atlanta. I think for elders this might be a great place, but for anyone that enjoys eating out, shopping or anyone that has children, this is not the place for you. There is a very high number of HIV in the area, if I am correct it was one of the highest in the country a few years back. I would be frightened to raise a teen there. And two women have mysteriously disappeared from the immed. area in the last few years and I had a close call myself while out on my daily run. So it is not the innocent town it appears to be on the surface. I lasted 1 year there, and welcomed civilization back into my world when I left. Oh also...there are zero jobs there and the people are slow to warm to "new folks" on their turf.
