California Now

I am a 46 year old, 3rd generation, native of California. My husband is a 6th generation native. There is no category you have listed that hasn't changed overwhelmingly in the last 10 to 20 years. California is no longer the friendly Golden State of recent decades. No one who lives here anymore has been here for more than 5 to 10 years. Most are not even from the US. Welfare is high, crime in high and the cost of living, not even including the price for gasoline here, is beyond what people living in other states would believe. Customer service at any place from a local McDonald's to WalMart is amazingly poor, but is accepted by these relatively new Californians as Okay. Education is struggling to keep up with the explosion of growth in the population as well as to improve it's standards. It is loosing it's battle. Life is fast-paced, expensive and crowded. When I visit other states I am now ashamed to admit I'm from California.
