I was born and raised in California. I had always loved the fact that I live in such a unique state. But, since a devastating downsizing that has left me earning 50% less than my former salary, my view of California has changed. The housing costs in California is unreal. There's no way I can afford to purchase a home in California. A home that costs $200,000 anywhere else in the county costs $650,000 in California. The housing problem is so bad, now tenants such as myself are being forced out due to condo conversions.
As soon as I can afford to move myself and my family out of California, we're gone. In the meantime, due to a condo conversion at the apartment complex I've lived in for 17 years, we just may be homeless first.
