LIVING IN CHARLESTON, SC

I would just like to tell everyone about my experience living here. Hopefully this will let you know if you wish to live here or not. Charleston, SC, like all places, has it's positives and negatives. I was originally born in another country, but I spent twenty years of my life here, so I know the place pretty well. I've also added bits of humor to hopefully lighten your experience of my accounts. Here it goes-

POSITIVES

Let me start by telling you what I like about about the area- 1. Very historic city- you can especially see this in downtown Charleston. Places to see- the Battery, Charles Towne Landing, Fort Sumter, the downtown flea market, and of course all the clubs & restaurants. 2. The beaches- One of the features about living in this small city is being close to the ocean. My favorite beaches are- the Isle of Palms beach and Folly Beach. Apart from the beaches is sailboating which is very popular around the area. The most general spot is around downtown. 3. Hospitality- Generally the people here are friendly and will go out of their way to help you. Like I said before; it's a small population area so most people already know each other and it's easy to make friends as well as finding a spouse and settling down here, just don't get anyone mad at you or they will kill you. No, I'm just kidding, the people here ARE nice. 4. Climate- Winters are short and mild with a trace of snow annually and summers are long and hot. Definitely a place for warm weather people. Rainfall amount is above average here and in the summer 15 inches of rain or more are not uncommon. Definitely a place for umbrella people. 5.Its laid back and life is at a slow pace- which is a good or bad thing depending on who you are and where you came from. 6. Countercultures- You will still see people into these movements here, especially in downtown- goths, punks, freaks, reggae followers, and a few remaining hippies- though their numbers have been falling into the endangered species category as of 2006.(except for rastafarians) 7. Nickname- Chucktown, cool huh?

NEGATIVES

Now for the downside of living here- 1. This place is too backwards- Set your watch back a hundred

Skip it. Stop for gas in Savannah. Then go to Florida.
