No, the average male to female ratio favors the males to a significant degree in regards to dating. Also, Charleston is an extremely conservative town. And it is difficult to find decent jobs due to the rapid influx of people into this area. The cost of living is very high and having lived all over the U.S. we actually find the people in Charleston to be less friendly and genuine than those in other locales. I wouldn't say the people of Charleston are backward necessarily, depending on what you mean by that. Frankly, if all you like to do is eat and go to the beach and have a superficial relationship with people, this might be ok. Otherwise, there isn't much below the admittedly charming, historical surface. As a case in point, my wife have missed New Orleans the entire four years we lived here, despite the chaos caused by Katrina. You may want to check out the Gulf Coast if you don't mind the constant threat of hurricanes.
