Cost of Living in Charlottesville

As one moves closer towards the University of Virginia, the cost of living increases, more notably with respect to real estate and rental rates, which is to be expected due to increased demand. The job situation is interesting, in that there are a number of quite highly educated individuals ready and willing to work for lesser wages. These "university transients" are looking for short term solutions and accept lower salaries as a result, possibly just to make ends meet. I feel that the median wage/salary in this area does not allow for much disposable income due to the higher cost of living.
