Review of Columbia, Missouri

Great town for conservatives
Star Rating - 10/23/2007
We moved to Columbia, Missouri from the West coast and its liberal, latte- drinking, religious-tolerant, environmental-loving attitudes. Now we enjoy nearly a monolithic political viewpoint on a variety of issues from education to health care, all presided over by a Republican-run legislature. It's like traveling back in time 60 years. People are still driving Lincolns and Chevrolet Impalas, and sipping Folgers and having a Camel cigarette with their bacon sandwich. It's heaven on earth. We love it!

I would say Columbia is probably the least conservative city in Missouri. It is home to over 30,000 college students, gay pride parades, Earth Day Festivals, Stephens College (very liberal arts), last year the KKK had a march because our city laws are such that EVERYONE has the right to free speech (it was a disaster, the hippies started throwing beer bottles, it lasted a total of 5 minutes, it won't happen again, clear and present danger...). There is a Mosque downtown, lots of international food markets, and the district is chocked full of poetry slam coffee shops. Kat's review describes a whole lot of Missouri, Lebanon and Fulton are especially blasts from the past, but not Columbia.
