Delta Colorado

I've read a variety of comments about Delta and thought I'd share my thoughts. After living in the Denver area, (Parker and south Aurora), for 30 years plus, we decided to move to Delta Co. just over two years ago to be closer to family on the western slope. Delta gets about 12 inches of snow per year which is about one third of what we were used to on the other side of the state. Being so close to the desert it is common to have 30 degree temperature spreads from early morning to late afternoon. That being said, it really is quite pleasant for most of the year. December and Janruary are really cold especially in the mornings and July/August is pretty hot but just mainly as the afternoon progresses. The rest of the year has very pleasant comfortable weather. Delta has about 9000 people in it which for us is great. We have our Super Wal-Mart, Safeway, and City Market along with some decent restaurants and other shopping. There is a drive-in movie that gets a lot of business each summer plus there is the restored Egyptian Movie theater. There is a wonderful recreation center that has all the latest excercise equipment, tennis courts and racquetball. Also, if you like camping, golf, horseback riding, and sightseeing like we do--all of this is very closeby. The Grand Mesa is only a few miles away along with the beautiful San Juan Mountains about an hour away. Montrose offers more shopping and is only about 22 minutes away. Grand Junction offers much more and is only about 40 minutes away. If you are looking for a friendly small town with the above description you're likely enjoy Delta. If you are looking for a zillion big city things to do 24 hours a day then look elsewhere. Personally, I can see my wife and I being very content here in Delta for a very long time!
