Not what it seems

Colorado is a beautiful state, but Denver is not such a great place to live. The cost of living is very high, especially in relation to the low pay. I moved here a few years ago from the Detroit area, and thought it would definitely be better. But I'm making much less out here, while paying more than double the rent, plus higher prices for groceries, parking, and pretty much everything.
There are two extremes here - the very poor and the very wealthy, with a very small middle class. And much of the wealthy are trust fund kids in their 20s. While I've met some decent people, there's a lot of attitude out here, and it's not a very welcoming place for a middle-class, mid-level professional. Sure, it's great when I can get into the mountains to ski, hike, run, etc., but the day to day in Denver is not what it's cracked up to be. Denver is much more expensive than this data shows, and the overall experience just doesn't seem to be worth the high price.
