I grew up in Durango, fifth generation. Of course it is beautiful and my roots are there. Too many people have moved there though. I still love the landscape, and my family’s there. But I got sick of all the transplants with their fake bravado—Texans and Californians who think their mountain men—lots of posers in Durango.

My husband and I are tired, from So California and have stayed in Durango several times. We fell in love with area and are considering moving there with our 2 dogs. Not posers or mountain men.

In my 30 years in and around Durango (not a native), I find that the most vibrant and community minded people are those that come to Durango looking for a community to love and improve. Durango is a special place where the community is threatened by loss of affordable housing, struggle to keep good jobs and balance of recreation vs extractive industries. But anyone who wants to help us keep Durango liveable is welcome.
